I see theturn and will play it when I get home from work.

As an aside, these randomly generated starts can really SUCK. I don't think I have found a rolling rainy tile yet and absolutely no rivers.

If the pod lotto had not been generous, I would be in deep deep trouble already

Maybe if we had more units at the start, a bad position would be compensated...
We will have to rely on diplomacy : even if a player starts with an extremely good position, he can hardly beat two other allied players...

Maybe a 3 players map is better in this regard... it would prevent the strongest player to ally with the next strongest against the two weakest players... I don't have much experience in PBEM : does it happen often?

Idea: the next "random" PBEM I will make (and this time even world settings will be random, and maybe even player factions...), I will change the colony pods to hovertank/gravship/copter/needlejet 3/8-res trance colony pods, and the scout to a Battle Ogre Mk-1/2.

If you want to avoid ganging up, simply have a rule that two human controlled factions cannot do a co-operative victory. They can still jointly attack the leader but each would need to hold back enough to try to take on or outbuild their "ally" in the aftermath.

Most of my pbems are played that way precisely since its no fun if two top factions team up.

Yes, this is surely the simpliest thing to do...
So, no cooperative victory... everyone is ok with that?

Ya I would even prefer it-- if one faction starts to win, the others will team up but only to a point since they always have to look out for themselves
