Sven trudged along. Arrayed around him were the other members of the 10 th rangers each carrying a small hand weapon. They had been tasked to head due west and "explore, reporting all that you shall find". So far all that Sven could report was that they were crossing a flat arid area but it appeared some rocky terrain was ahead.

IN addition they could see a curious pink growth. The officers were ordering all the various ranger groups to stay out of it as the health impacts were unknown

"It has been a good year for us. " Bishop Simon was standing on a platform, surrounded by journalists.

"God has indeed blessed us greatly. We have founded our fourth base, our scientists told us of some direct ethical applications of calculus, which lead to a democracy. We believe we are the first humans on planet with a democratic system in place."

A hand went up on the floor. These new press conferences were an annoying off shoot of the democratic values that Father Chaunk had implemented.

"You say first humans. You think there are other groups on Planet?"

"Yes, err... Frank is it? Daily Planet? Hmm. Yes, we think there may be as many as six other 'factions' here, although we can only clearly decipher three other wavelengths on an open channel. We do not know who these other factions are, or what their agenda may be. However, we will cross that bridge when we come to it, no doubt.

"We also recovered a mineral pod, which contained sufficient materials for the new children's creche in New Jerusalem. Current estimates vary, but most of our economists are thinking we saved around 25 years worth of hard labour. Praise the Lord!"

Many hands shot up, and Bishop Simon ably answered all the questions fired at him. However, not everyone was impressed.

Mister Greg Dian left the conference early, thoughts buzzing around his head. Surely even Father Chaunk knew this democracy was a sham. The first election had been rushed through, before any other party could possibly form, and the turn out was less than fifteen percent of those eligable.

And even now, it seemed as if nothing had changed. Sure, the people were happier, and Doctors had reported a growth in birth rates, but that could be just randy husbands no? The same people were in charge, doing the same idiotic things as before.

They even admited there were other humans on this rock, but they certainly were doing nothing about it. Gah! Beaurocrats!

"That's it, I'm running in the next elections. Five years, and this sorry lot will know who Father Dian is, that's for sure!"
