  • Would the University of Planet be willing to come to the aid of such an attacked faction if the victimized faction refuses to give a demanded technology during contact?

      • Council Issue [2]:
The University of Planet is willing to consider aiding an attacked faction--no matter on which basis the vendetta was declared. Doctor Rubin stresses that if a conflict is feared by answering a call--DON'T ANSWER!

        • Council Issue #3

The Governor thanks the University of Planet for it's response.
Now only the other factions participating in this Council need to response on the issue at hand.

Captain Sankis? DataJack Aeolus? What do ye say?

          • Council Issue #4

The Angels wish to see the Planet-wide peace preserved. While we dislike having to resort to military means to resolve an issue that could have been resolved via other methods, we realize that this is not always possible.

So our answer is, yes, should a faction launch a vendetta against other faction due to the refusal to turn over a technology, the Angels will stand with the victimized faction until the matter has been resolved to the satisification of the Council.

              • Turn is delayed no longer.

                M.Y. 2165 - Planetfall

In the streets below, Aeolus quietly observed the glowing of flames burning throughout the base lightning up the dark night. According to reports that has been coming in steadily, the base’s garrison has been busy putting down sporadic acts of unrest committed by groups of people came to be known as ‘drones.’ Deep into the headquarters, sophisticated probe units have been defending the core computer from random cyber attacks launched by the drones. Truth to be told, those disruptions caused by the drones are nothing but minor annoyances. However, it distressed Aeolus to see his people so conflicted with itself. Also, the occurrence of riots has been increasing and it does not take a genius to see that soon if not tended to those will seriously disrupt the society’s ability to function as the whole.

The riots have been going on for years now and Aeolus has long thought about the matter. Six decades ago when they first came to the Planet, Aeolus and his band of survivors agreed they wanted to create a society in which people would be free to be themselves, to express themselves, and to do what they wish as long the greater good and security of the whole is not threatened.

The result was interesting. The Data Angels became a rather motley society of various groups with their own ideas and outlook on life. Sure, there were frictions but in the end everybody were very tolerable and followed the philosophy of leaving others alone if they’d leave them be. However as time went on the population became more and more Planetborn, turning Earthborn into a minority. While the Earthborn are the cautious lot who would often tread carefully and take their time before making a decision out of the fear of repeating same mistakes that were made on Earth, the Planetborn are the different breed. More hardy, less squeamish about the Planet and its strange ecology, and more hedonistic. After all, mindworms could wipe out a base anytime so why not enjoy life while you can?

In his negotiations with drone demagogues, they were always insistent on getting their demands heard and met immediately. Aeolus’ explanations that they have many issues to address and limited resources to use often fell upon deaf ears much to his exasperation. Nearly right away, Aeolus saw the core problem – the largely Planetborn faction was being ruled by a small paternalistic council by Earthborn with a perspective completely different from their own. Theirs were more innocent, raw, and so full of energy. It was time for the Planetborn to take charge of their own destiny but Aeolus knew it would be very difficult to convince the Earthborn to let go of the reins to their children. He even had a hard time convincing himself but it had to be done and hopefully in the end the Planetborn will be willing to listen and learn from Earthborn’s accounts of what happened to the homeworld.

The question was how to accomplish the transition of power. The only solution Aeolus could think of was quietly assassinate certain Earthborn and persuade the rest to fall into the line but that was something Morgan would do. So it was not an option. So for nearly two decades now, Aeolus has been working on the council members and managed to persuade them to see the inevitability – either share the power or face what could be a bloody rebellion. Now only few hardliners remain and they will not have much choice.

Anytime now, a group of demagogues selected from every base in the faction, selected for their political savvy and history of seeking a common ground between their followers and the authority in order to reach a compromise as opposite to blindly demanding this and that like a spoiled child, will be arriving. They will be brought to the secret Council meeting which will convene later that night. There, the future of the Angels will be decided…

As the first sunlight broke out, bringing the dawn to Planetfall, its people woke up to the news being announced via all mass mediums that the Angels has finally shook off the tattered cloak of the planetfall and taken up a new cloak of a green democracy in which all citizens will be able to be fully involved and the environment respected out of in memoriam of devastating eco-damage committed on Earth.

                    • 2166 to Captain Sankis.

DataJack Aeolus: Could you clarify your stance on the Council Issue? --It would seem that breaking a previous agreement involving exchanges of technologies is accepted (theoretically) and that the Data Angels would support the faction that does not adhere to the previously signed agreement; in that the other faction would have reason to declare vendetta due to the breaking of the agreement. Certainly, this cannot be so, can it?

                      Comment

                      • Doctor Rubin, thank you for your request for clarification. After revisiting the previous statement, we realize that we did not word it clearly enough.

We were referring to the illustrated situation in which one faction is being threatened to be attacked if they do not turn over a technology. The faction refuses and the threatening faction make good on the threat and launches a vendetta.

In that case, the Angels will stand with the victimized faction. The act of attempting to muscle out a technology is dishonorable and shameful.

In your example in which two factions made an agreement to exchange technology and one does not follow through as agreed - that is strictly between them. If the Council decides to intervene, Angels will abide by the Council's decision. Otherwise, such situations will be evaluated on individual basis.

Ah sorry, it seems you don't need me to resent the turn? And when was that email so I could look it up? Unless you can resend?

EDIT: Never mind, I saw it.
