Um, I think thats the understatement of the year! I can't believe Greg did the foil graphics in a day!?!

Anyways, speaking from the programming side of the house I am working on changing Saladin into Lal as far as all the links and references are concerned. If someone wants to do the leaderhead for this then we should have Lal in good shape for some serious playtesting in the first release!

I'd also say that if someone wanted to replace the Tribal Villages with a "Unity Pods" icon, then that would be a good thing as well. Finally, as far as the xenofungus is concerned: do we want to replace the "Snow" terrain with xenofungus?

Ok, heres an idea for a first task that you might take on.

Would it be possible to do a mock-screenshot for publicity purposes for the mod? I'm thinking something along the lines of a trio of Believer low-tech rovers cruising in on University Base with maybe an area of coast with a naval unit in the foreground and a needlejet in the distance.
To set up this mock screenshot would take new models (vehicles, maybe a couple of pieces of terraforming, new city buildings for University Base), new textures (models, terrain) but no programming as far as I can tell.

Would it be a useful exercise in finding out how you best work together? It would certainly teach practical skills such as the implementation of artwork into the game. How does this sound?

Gkclarkson: Heh, another excellent piece of work there! Are you intentionally putting it together as a series of different modules, similar to how their constructed in SMAC?

            Yes. See 3d research thread.

ok, I textured that model of the unity foil pretty hastily, and came up with this

Note that Markos has just posted here about the C4 Mod'ing wiki. It contains info specifically on what is needed and how to mod DDS files. FYI in case this helps you guys in your efforts.

                  This is fun

I'm gonna finish this up later on today, put together a complete supply crawler

                  Source

                  and the final version

                  notice the raytracing awesomeness?
by the way, i took a *few* small liberties in the construction of this model, mostly out of ease of creation, if you notice, a few of the sunken green plates that should be on it are not. I made those, but i couldn't position them without spending too much time, so i just didn't sink those parts into the model.

It's the weekend, and that means that its time for another model!

This time, Lal gets his basic, low population city modeled

But not only that, he also gets a Perimeter defense

And why not, A Tachyon Field

I'm still going to have to wait for an exporter to get these in game, but if anyone wants me to mock something up, give me a pm or something

Yes, if someone apart from gkclarkson who's busy with 3D could make the technology icons (which is 2D), it'd be very nice!

You can previev an example in the Rubin's thread, but it could use some embossing or some other nice effect.

In particular, I am worried that age transitions and victory conditions may be corrupted if the default technologies are removed.

Edit: I tried deciding on a format to go with the new icons. To this I made 4 differently colored patterns--derived from the SMACX colors used. Creating a new icon for a technology or building is then a simple matter of applying the appropriate pattern (and setting depth & light intensity/angle).

I also experimented with a transparent background for the icons (modifying the alpha mask). I found this a bit more tricky to get right, but I assume it is possible to do.

Here are the 4 patterns used (set on the applied background as well):

Edit 2: I have temporarily uploaded the icons for the technologies 00 to 06 (check the SMACX "techs" folder for the corresponding original icons). The uploaded files are all ready to implement, hence the format is .dds. I have, again, tried to use a strict naming convention. This applies specifically to the implementation of the audio quotes.

                            Happy Thanksgiving Everybody

I understand fully that these models are WAY too high detail for inclusion as in-game models, but they sure look good, and I can always reduce poly count.

Besides, we might need to make some fmv or something.

                            And they are pretty

This is getting easier to do now that lots of the basic parts are done.

The colour difference between the chassis and the cockpit is kind of strange. Is this intentionally ?

gkclarkson probably added some colouring because cIV units are pretty coloured as opposed to SMAC and he wanted to follow that trend.
