Is there any kind of explanatory notes regarding the config text files such as alpha.txt? That would be very handly for all potential world builders.

What about all those 0's outside SP's
So the Hive, for example, would prefer a 1, 2, 0, -1, 0, SP (like the Command Nexus) to a -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, SP (like the Human Genome Project).

With the #WORLDBUILDER section of alpha.txt
I've played a little bit with these two lines
15, ; Deep water (Encourages fractal to grow deep water)
10, ; Shelf (Encourages fractal to grow shelf)
But it seems that the shelf setting has a threshold of 50. Setting a value above this seems to make it totally random. Also when using custom size maps (eg 128x256) the amount of land seems to be that of the 64x128 sized map with the remainder being set as normal ocean.
There's no game in The Sims. It's not a game. It's like watching a tank of goldfishes and feed them occasionally. - Urban Ranger

I think you need to go into the basic Alpha.txt and change the values for "Huge Planet" from 64,128 to 128,256 or even 256,512 (and then select Huge Map instead of Custom Map)to get morelandmass on the humongous maps.
At least it worked for me with Map of Planet - haven't actually tried it with a truly humongous custom map as I like the 90% water feature anyway.
