  • Clean up the text files? Sure!

    Crash from random selection: Aware of this. I don't think it's possible to make it select the new factions, but I could change the picture to say (old faction randomizer: broken. Do not press) or some such. It may be possible to re-size the button if it cannot be eliminated. It's an interesting bug.....er...... feature

          • Another thing I can do for the mod is put in tons of extra base names... for those of us that like to build like crazy :roll:

            That's all explained in the thread about Base Names.

                • Speaking of graphics, is the image on the first post of this thread supposed to replace the normal Alpha Centauri Picture that is the backdrop for the main menu of the game?

                  • Here's what I was getting at in the above post....

                    (ignore my crappy text styles...)

                    Two things about it though: I thought it'd be a bit better if we used the actual Alpha Centauri Font that comes with the game.

                    Second, as you can see, I lazily and roughly represented where the menu buttons are for the game; so you want the game title out of the way.

                    And someone else can do the actual work for making the text look spiffy and whatnot like in the current image on the first post.

                      Well I finished doing the faction names, that's a lot of copy/paste/replace/rinse/repeating to do.... for THIRTY factions (super AI and regular both)....
                      (also two other files, the basenames.txt and a .txt file stating what the different suffixes are for each faction)

                      It works fine to go ahead an replace all the faction files with these.

                      Already existing games will treat the lists as completely new and use them. You'll get some duplicate bases, but SMAC is smart enough to add a -2 to the end... i.e. New Rome and New Rome-2.

                        I understand. However, I think this might not be possible. The button is linked to randomizing the factions and I've never seen the code that controls the button. Copy?

                          It looks to me like the Nauticons aren't getting their special of no negative affects from Military Production.

                          I'm 100% sure that I'm playing the regulars, not the AI...

                          Dunno if that 0 after AQUATIC is important. My guess is that it is

                          Edit2: It looks to me like we're trying to do too much with the Nauticon Faction... It already has 9 statements, of which the game only reads the first 8. And that's without Aquatic... I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about.

                          Edit3: About renaming the Random factions button, i did find the spot for renaming it (though not what choices belong there).
                          Look near the very bottom of the labels.txt file... Whether you knew this already, I don't know

                          • Ugh, the Nauticon had Aquatic, 0 last time I played them...I wonder how that got dropped?

                            I was aware of the labels.txt It's the button behavior that I suspect is not accessible. My only hope is that the button shape is defined in system.txt or elsewhere and I can reduce it's size to zero.

                            See Chaos Theory's posts r/e the number of special faction abilites possible. Still, this doesn't explain how I trimmed their aquatic nature. I've made significant changes since 2.0.9 to several factions and the SE table. I will make sure to incorporate your base names and do some playtesting before the overdue update next week.

                              • Why not put the Aldeb factions over the old faction buttons - have the 'Standard Aldeb factions' and the 'SuperAI factions'.

                                Or you could try the labels.txt thing and change the label to 'DONTPUSHTHISBUTTONUNLESSYOUWANTSMACTOCRASHANDLIKE DELETINGYOURALPLACENTARUI.INIFILE'

                                or some similar

                                and change the graphic to something like a big 'NO' symbol.
