Aldebaran 2: Smax

  • I just checked Datalinks for facilities in 2.1.0. So here are some spotet things:

    Core Extraction Facility - links to Aerospace complex - should matertran generator
    Core Fungus Facility - links to Aerospace complex - should matertran generator
    Geosynchronus survey pod - links to orbital not projection
    Habitation Dome - links to hab complex not subsurface environ.
    Mind machine lab - links to fusion lab not endothermy lab
    Projection defence pod - link is intended to planet buster but links to bolt weapon (12)

    Another question about core facilities. They are made from satellite structures, so does it mean that they will be available to orbital attack when orbital flight is available, or there is no orbital flight in this mod?

      Orbital combat is the same as it is in SMAX... The Aldebaran style of "core facilities" couldn't be properly implemented because those things are hardcoded into the game...

      I.E. the Asteroid striking nessus has been changed to an accident in the core, and effects all factions. Of course, there's no way all the factions would be grouping together in a single area, so they shouldn't all be affected. Ya.

        Fst! Darn. I had those fixed at one point. I must have overwritten it when I was integrating the text-files after vacation.

        • Cannot make directory .

          I can't get ModMan to suppress the error under Win9x

          It tries to do a mkdir . when swapping files, but you can't make the current directory.

          I might update ModMan to spew information, rather than suppressing it. How does that sound?

          • Since I know that would be the easiest, I think it's a good idea. There are quite a few Smac players with ancient machines. I still like the idea of putting up a little Dos graphic. Even a message right before the 'cannot create directory .' message would be good:

            'ModMan is moving files around in the background. Depending on your system this may take up to 10 seconds. If running Win9x, ignore the 'cannot create directory . ' error message that follows.'

            or something.

            But hey, it works. A surprisingly straightforward task that was not equally easy to achieve in DOS, let me tell you.....

            • You wanted info about the SE table... It generally seems good to me. One thing I find lacking is that there's nothing with -Probe. Something has to make your systems more prone to infiltration.

              Edit: The names in the datalinks info about the landmarks need to be corrected.

                  • Thanks, that makes 2 websites with the .cvr viewer. I still can't play them on my machine though. See the CVR thread.

                    #endgame, havn't tried it yet. Will do later today. Also, I want to fully get a grip on my own SE table changes. Some of them seem goofy in retrospect.

                      • Darsnan has donated one of his maps for the interim. I also have an original map of Aldebaran. But beyond that, no. It's also about time to start work on the 4+ scenarios that will tell the story of the Chironians and Galactics....

                            • Aldebaran 2.1.1 due date ->~~ August 30

                              ModMan 1.5, any text changes Lord Nword comes up with, and any re-balancing I get done before then. We're still waiting on the graphics department, and for my part, I'll wait for a little more inspiration to finish the faction leader pictures. 2.1.1 should have the Title Screen finished, but the faction-randomizer button might not get a workover before then. We shall see....

                              If anyone is interested in helping with the scenarios and storyline, I can send you a brief plot outline. I'd expect to finish the first 3 or so scenarios by the end of September. Darsnan has volunteered, but it's still open, as is map making.

                                Has anyone else submitted a "Map of Aldebaran" besides myself? Also, I had submitted a couple of ideas to you in your "Fastlane" thread about some scenarios I have in mind - let me know if any of them sound like a good theme for Aldebaran. I am also seriously thinking about making your "Fastlane" game into a scenario as well, as I am playing it as my SP right now, and it is very entertaining and challenging!

                                Finally, who's turn is it in the Succession Game?
