Since Smacksim has fallen off the face of the Earth for the time being (), I think we should still keep this project going, it can't be allowed to die. Could I get people who have upgraded something between the most recent release and now (most likely Geomodder and Lord Nword) to send their stuff to me at zzzweldingmaskman@hotmail.comzzz (remove all occurences of 'z'). I don't want to mess around with balance or anything major, just meybe start on some of the graphics and generally keep the project warm until Smacksim's return.

I currently don't have any updates to send; I haven't played SMAC in a week n a half.
I'll do that final grammar/link check of the datalinks the weekend if I have the time (just have to procrastinate to find time )

Well I don't have a particular desire to get involved in the project (only because I have my own small project going on), but I would hate to see all the effort here wasted. So if there is anything you all need help with, let me know.

I'm pretty sure, though too lazy to check atm, that there isn't a file that describes Aldebaran itself in the "real world." I figure as long as no one (important) objects, I'll go ahead and put a little quip in the datalinks about it... And post all of that in a month

Hey buddies!

Due to prolonged absence of SmackSim, this project seems to have stopped.

We, in ACDG III have been conducting searches and attempting contact with SmackSim for some time now.
Unsucessfully..

As he's away (maybe forever), an opinion has raised that this project should be continued even without SmackSims presence.

Therefore we ask you all (contributers to this project) to report here and answer a few questions:

1.Is it possible to continue without SmackSim?

Just to know maybe he kept all files somewhere behind closed door..

2.Where the progress could be seen?

Files, screenshots etc.

3.Each of the contributors, please name:

a. Your contribution (a short list of your works here)
b. Your willingness to go on with this project with some help from new guys (us )


Please answer these questions, so we can get a picture how much is done and how much still needs to be done.

Also - after all active contributors report here, we an make a list of duties, so each one of us knows what must he do (depending on skills and interest, of course), and which things need a person who'd be working on them.

I'm perfectly willing to continue the work...

My role is basically as a play tester... And its still the only way that I play SMAC atm.

Considering the boringness of searching out typos and misnamed links, I didn't convince myself to work on the project over break (which ended yesterday).

I totally lack any relevant programming skills (i.e. Batch files...).

I believe the only graphics that still need to be done are a few faction leader pics that Smacksim wanted to revise...

It also seems to me that the techs are somewhat unbalanced. The weapons and armors can be gained in almost any order. This creates two main effects:
-Less upgrading is needed.
-Technological advantages are often much more extreme.

So in conclusion, we can finish this project without Smacksim. If we still want the fancy installer we'll have to find someone to do that. IMO, we don't really need it. Modman works fine . Just creating another folder for the installation of Aldebaran works too.
