    Assume we've picked Doctrine: Flexibiltiy. What are our choices for the fourth tech?

      Explanation of 2104 Former and Crawler Moves

      BRCM Former moved 1 sq. S onto monolith. Next turn it will move 1 sq. E. In subsequent turns, it will complete the road to East and then move to the first expansion site to help clear fungus.

      East Former built road. In subsequent turns, it will move 1 sq. W into the first expansion siteand help clear fungus.

      HQ former continues to clear fungus 1 sq. NE of HQ. In subsequent turns, it will build road to complete the interbase road network.

      BRCM crawler moved into HQ and convoys 1 min from BRCM to HQ. By taking one min from BRCM, we will delay the completion of the colony pod until the turn after BRCM grows to 2 pop., which is the earliest BRCM can build a colony pod. This also contributes one min to the SP. Next turn the supply droid will re-home to HQ and move 1 sq. NW and crawl 2 mins/year.

      HQ crawler moved 1 sq. NW, convoyed 2 min to HQ and revealed two more monoliths. In subsequent turns, it will move another sq. NW and convoy 2 mins/year to HQ. If it hadn't discovered a suitable square for crawling either NW or W of its current position, the crawler currently in HQ could have moved downriver to the mouth of the river and crawled 1 min.

      East crawler moved 1 sq. W and convoyed 2 nuts to East. It will continue to crawl 2 nuts/year until East is on the verge of growing to pop. 2. Then it will move into HQ and convoy 1 min (which would have been wasted since the colony pod will have one more min than necessary the same turn East grows to pop. 2 and be forced to wait a turn). After that it will be re-homed to HQ and convoy 2 mins/year to HQ (of the six monoliths, one goes to BRCM, two are available for HQ workers and 3 are available to be crawled for HQ).

        Some early thoughts on diplomacy



        Since our population is 3, we know that the other factions can't have more than 3 pop.

        Since University is ahead in tech, we should trade tech with University only if we are getting a good deal.

          Explanation of 2105 Moves

            Some early thoughts on who to fight



            Three factions have built in advantages in vendetta:

            Hive (perimeter defenses)
            Spartans (+2 morale)
            Believers (25% attack bonus)

            It is probably best to avoid fighting these three factions until we gain a tech lead that allows us to match their advantages, although a blitz against the Believers might work (they don't have a bonus on defense).

            One faction has a built in disadvantage:

            Gaians (-1 morale), although this is partially offset by the ability to capture mindworms.

            It might make sense to take out the Gaians before their advantages in Planet and Efficiency give them a decisive lead in mindworms and techs.

            It certainly would make sense to take out the University before its advantage in Research gave it a decisive lead in techs.

            We can go either way with Morgan. A vendetta with Morgan has no particular difficulties; on the other hand, a treaty or Pact could provide lots of commerce income.

              Hurrying formula for units

              How do you calculate the energy cost for hurrying units?

              If you have 40 or fewer minerals missing from completion, you can look up the value in Nethog's rush table. It assumes that there are at least 10 mins in the production box. If there are less, you need to double the figure in the table.

              The table is derived from MariOne's work here and here.

              First calculate the complete hurry cost

              CH = INT (M(2 + M/20))

              where CH = cost for Complete Hurry and M = # of Minerals needed to complete the unit.

              If the number of minerals in the production box is less than 10, double the result.

              The partial hurry cost is

              PH = ROUND UP (N * CH/M)

              where N = Number of minerals hurried for the unit.

              Suppose in a few turns, we plan to build a 1-1-(4) foil (requires 20 mins) in our expansion base as the first production.

              The production box begins with 10 mins. The number, M, of missing minerals is 10.

              CH = INT (10 * (2 + 10/20)) = INT (10 * 2.5) - 25

              So complete hurry cost is 25.

              If we only want to hurry 5 mins (base square will produce 1 min and rolling canyon mineral bonus square will produce 4 mins),

              PH = ROUND UP (5 * 25/10) = ROUND UP (12.5) = 13.

              If you check Nethog's rush table for the row for 10 missing minerals, you will see that the total completion cost is 25 energy units and that a partial completion of 5 minerals will cost 13 units.

                (4) Industrial Economics followed by Biogenetics, Information Networks and Social Psych.

                Following the plan of "claws and fangs," I think we should go for Applied Physics.

                We will exceed the bureaucracy limit with the second expansion base. A bureaucracy drone will appear at our second base, BRCM.

                This means that at pop. 1, the garrison will be suppressing a drone. At pop. 2, there will be a drone riot. Since we have a police rating of zero, only one garrison can be used to suppress a drone.

                So we need to begin working on Social Psych (which will give us Recreation Commons, which will suppress two drones). In addition, Social Psych will give us Doctrine: Loyalty (Command Nexus, Perimeter Defense, Police State) and Ethical Calculus (Children's Creche, Democratic).

                  Movement when popping a mindworm

                  When a gun foil moves into a non-fungus square and pops a mindworm, it loses two movement points. So we need to have at least three movement points remaining before we pop a pod in a non-fungus square (so we have a movement point remaining to attack the mindworm).

                  If a gun foil moves into a pod in a fungus square and pops a mindworm, it loses all four movement points. So you might as well move into a pod in a fungus square no matter what your movement point status.

                    Sea Colony Pods

                    A colony pod built on a foil chassis costs 7 rows of minerals (70 minerals when Industry is 0, as it currently is for us).

                    However, when a sea base is established, it automatically gets a pressure dome, which has the same effect as Recycling Tanks (which cost 4 rows).

                    So it essentially cost the same to build a land base with Recycling Tanks as it costs to build a sea base with Pressure Dome.

                                So we will be asked to choose from Advanced Subatomic Theory, Superstring Theory, Intellectual Integrity, and Neural Grafting.
