I just hate this - Blake you are right

Though, despite the damn fact that Blake was right, my comment was quite sincere. I rarely sees that message in SMAX but are pestered by it in C3C.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Yeah. There was more work to do, but I was able to pick up a lot more SPs.

I actually love OCC and find it to still have a good pace. Plus, since your usually low on the power scale, the AI will trade techs with you and keep you near tech parity.
I real life terms the OCC finishes pretty quickly because there is not all that much to for you to do. In game times [assuming you are playing on a pretty big, or huge, map] it takes a long while because you are waiting for the other factions to develope the tech to make transcend possible. I never won OCC by any other means than trans. Has anyone?

Usually you wait for someone else to build VoP then you cash in all your crawlers/trawlers (plus other units if necessary) for the ascent and steal the game.

Airbases...lol....I forgot all about them. You build those with the "." right? I guess they make more sense if you don't get the HSA every game or you are playing a OCC.
The only time I can recall using them is for OCC. Otherwise they don't make much sense. In regular games I'd rather make plant a base (the lack of HSA could cause me to think otherwise, but I guess I'd just park a probe or two there).

      PS

As a third game I've played this month, I thought I'd do an ICS. I still haven't finished it because it takes so long to manage it (so many bases, some many units). I'm not sure what the MY is, but in game time it has not taken much time but, in real life time it has taken much time.

No matter: Lal, Yang, and Zak are submissive which leaves only Morgan and Miriam [she still has Impac while I now have Tachyon] to conquer (I'm Deirdre and Miriam took out Sparta - I wonder if I'll free the Colonel). I might finish it tonight.

I still play literally over 25 turns a day (on average, I have a pretty busy life- when I actually do play its more like 100 turns a session depending on wether im in the beginning or end) since the day I bought it in 2000.

Mostly SMANIAC now though. I really should start on Civ4

I like Civ4... but I actually like the future tech in SMAC much more than re-inventing the Wheel in Civ. There's something about Civ that is not as fun for me anymore... while SMAC somehow still feels fresh & new, even though the concept is still the same.

That being said, I need to try a full-on nuclear war in Civ4... whereas I've been playing SMAC just to fling Planet Busters around.

/obliterated most of Planet with Planet Busters in my last game... thank goodness for neighbors who don't like each other & let me build Planet Busters quietly
//nothing like backstabbing your belligerent Blood Truce'd neighbor with multiple Singularity Planet Busters... it's too easy to lift the attrocity ban when there are 2 alien factions

I still play SP, although it is strictly role playing. I tend to avoid the power-play exploits and do what I think my faction would do. I am continually amazed on how the game plays out, and how it tends to provide a unique storyline. One recent SP saw my only friend and ally Zak get absorbed under waves of Cult and Hive, and then the world was a very unfriendly place. I later freed Zak from the Hive, which I found to be very satisfying.

I've done a lot of MP but not in the recent past. These have provided great fodder for the fiction forum.

Obviously I still visit the forum, too - work, RL, and travel permitting.

I still play SMAX all the time. I've played to transcendence with every faction a zillion times, and am still finding new ways to make the game challenging.

I don't play SMAC (since Civ IV) or visit here. No option = stupid poll.

I have stopped playing SMAC, although I pass my CD around amongst my extended family a lot (trying to drum up further MP challenges). There are vague hopes that when somebody gets hooked on SMAC I might be able to hand them a URL to a certain fan fiction...

I still visit, but more because I'm really itching to write another one and I'm trying to sort out my thoughts before I do. I'm not sure if anybody visits the Fiction thread anymore but I have a weird feeling like I didn't quite say all that I'd wanted to in the first piece. Sort of like giving birth to half a pair of twins and then waiting for the other one to come along...

Still making notes, still reading a lot of fiction, still hoping to get it down on paper and in the forum... soon. :chews lip:

I have to say, I find it hilarious that the AC forum is more active that everything except Civ4 and OT. And Civ4 is already calming down, although it seems to have sucked away a lot of people, myself included.

Furthermore, Blake is doing some voodoo to the Civ4 AI which has made the lower (funner) difficulty levels more challenging in a better (less AI cheating) way.

Civ4 is good, but not so good that it could keep me entirely away from SMAC. Even that lackluster space victory movie is enough to send me back into space. (Last weekend, I even had a comparatively challenging SMAC game after a rotten time-warp start.)

Oh you're so going to get it just as soon as I can fund a Royal Expeditionary Force! And don't think the French are going to help you this time!

I did try to play it a little while ago, but things like non-stackable workers (formers) and all those "are you sure" dialogs... just get to be too much.

Yeah, thats my stance currently. Its fun and all, but the formers and other etc(like are you REALLY sure??) is too much, esspecially after galciv2.

I plan to have another look at GalCiv2 when I have some more time in the winter. It seems to have lots of interesting ideas, but not as much atmosphere as Alpha Centauri.

Since I play SMAC at the moment I feel relatively secure from the redcoats. (I do remember reading a report about a group of people calling themselves "Her Majesty's Government on Chiron". They are now under close supervision in the Research Hospital at Morgan Metagenics. I'm sure we can help them.)

Still play every third month or so. The game injected its own Longevity Vaccine into me, and it cannot die so long as I yet live. And vice versa.

                                And...
