No matter how many times I quit playing, the siren SMAC always calls me back, even for just a game or two.

I will play SMAC until I run out of variations of play styles, or something better comes along. Since no one can seem to accomplish this, I've resigned myself to be playing for a long time.

Btw Mead, what is a "5 city challenge"?

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to greater danger. It works the same in any country." -- Hermann Goering

        Not much of a challenge.

After I finished the OCC I was tired of having only one build que in the 1 city challenge, so I wanted to see how much quicker it would be to finish the game with 5 cities (I was sorely tempted to build more cities during the game, but held myself to the 5 - I did build an airbase though to better manage the AI).

Still playing SP and loving it. But I no longer visit Apolyton as frequently as the old days.

So was it any faster than a OCC? I actually love OCC and find it to still have a good pace. Plus, since your usually low on the power scale, the AI will trade techs with you and keep you near tech parity.

Airbases...lol....I forgot all about them. You build those with the "." right? I guess they make more sense if you don't get the HSA every game or you are playing a OCC.

I shall make my point in a slightly spammy way.

Okay hypothetical, lets say I want to build a borehole on a forest with 8 formers

Yes... I still want the forest replaced.

              Yes damnit!

I havn't changed my mind and the forest is going to be destroyed by the previous formers anyway so... continue?

              *sigh* Continue.

No I've changed my mind... just kidding! Continue.

Oh screw this I'm going to play CIV where I can put 8 workers in a single stack with a ctrl-click and then order the improvement built with 1 click.

And I hate it that drone riots halt production, the way it works in CIV is the best improvement ever.

the only reason I still play SMAC is because my computer doesn't run civ 4. Did the SMAC/CIV4 MOD get off the ground? (and did they realase that SDK kit, or was that a broken promise?)

                  It's not THAT bad...

I find drone riots stopping production interesting (it enables a new offensive espionage action). However, I find the turn order sometimes annoying, having a base rioting the very turn it grows. Then again, in some situations it works in one's favour (as in rushing a rec commons), so it boils down to learning to live with it.

I still play SMAX regularly. I tried Civ 4 but couldn't find as much 'fun'!

How rude of me, I didn't even answer to the question!

Yes, I do visit the forums regularly, play MP and some SP from time to time.

I visit the forums, but don't play at all atm...

That largely has to do with having a laptop and being in college. I need to buy one of those USB numpads. (I don't care for using a mouse to move units)
I once was a slave to the Alderbaran 2 project!
Now I shall work towards cIV:AC!... Oh Wait, that's dead too...

A friend of mine bought one of those just to play SMAC. Talk about loyalty.

In fact, I think it's time to install SMAX and play another game. I really haven't played the expansion all that much. In some ways I prefer the original game. It seemed a little more balanced. But the expansion does have some nice stuff in it though.
