If its easier I'd say just get rid of all the money in the pic. Or maybe just run with the original background in the Mbudake Morgan pic.

Nah, it's easiest to draw in more shirt. See the Hubble pic below, which I consider ready to go- all done since I last posted

Maybe it would make sense to have a single thread indexing all of your scenarios and topped just that thread.

Sounds good: do you have any thoughts on a name for this guy?

I believe something along these lines is already in the works. Regardless, good thought on your part (or is it "you're part" - oh, I could have sooo much fun with this.... ).

Yeah; I'm getting good at this, and conceited about it. I playtested it, and I think the faction may look even better than Zhukov's New Spartans. Bases, logos, faction colors and all are pretty "University After Dark" appropriately enough.

I put the French form of his name, Édouard Hubble, in my pcx credits, but something completely not Hubble would be better. Maybe Édouard LaPierre' or something. It breaks the illusion when gamers recognize the source, y'know? We really ought to rename Marshall Zhukov, too.

Heh, heh. It is already being dealt with.

If you are going for a French name, how about Jules Durand? Didier Galopin? I favor Camille Flammarion or a variation.

Those are good suggestions, where mine were uninspired. D?

In case anybody flew past it, I updated Morgenthau again. The Scrooge thing is fixed. While I was redoing the picture, I improved the washed-out look of his head and adjusted the background to stand out less. Then before I saved it, I toned down the over-bright bases a little.

...Incidentally, I glanced at the time when the portrait was ready for scan lines, and it only took me 38 minutes to resize, scan line, and paste the portraits in, adjust the bases, update the webpage and make the fake ad below...

I did miss it. I like the shirt: nicely done. I'll DL the file tomorrow before I playtest.

btw I'm working on updating the borehole datalinks to reflect the -2 nutrient modifier. This is what I've got so far:

Prone to accidents such as penetration of underground rivers, poison gas pockets, and magma flows, boreholes are prone to high attrition rates amongst its workers. This, coupled with the fact that it is typical to assign the least desireable of your workers to these sites makes the working environment a veritable psychiatric leper colony. To simulate this toxic environment a -2 nutrient modifier is assigned to worked borehole squares.

                    Any thoughts on this?

You can't really see it in the fake ad's .jpg format, but he has green stripes coming over each shoulder, like super-cheesy science fiction. I wanted to raise them into low epaulettes, but it would have looked way too stupid. They're quite dark now and don't jump out at you at all.

                      I like it.

Hmmm, would "steam explosions due to penetration of underground rivers" be too verbose?

You've got a subject/verb dissagrement with "boreholes are prone to high attrition rates amongst its"
(It strikes me that there ought to be a "I'm being a grammar nazi ironically" smiley.)

Instead you might try "a borehole is", or even better, "borehole technicians are subject to high attrition rates."

Then "This, coupled with the with the standard practice of assigning the least-valued workers to such sites, creates a working environment that is a veritable psychiatric leper colony."

I think its getting too busy as it is (I've got a history of trying to shove 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag). I'll see if I can wedge that in, though.

I started out opening/saving them with PhotoShop 5, a program I don't care for much, and doing most of the work pasting back and forth between Microsoft Paint and Lexmark Photo Editor- which came with my printer.

Between them, the later two are good for most of what I want to do, save color manipulation. Paint isn't bad for drawing and pasting smaller elements of an image in or moving them, but won't do a lot of things at all. Photo Editor is lousy for drawing and pasting/moving, and won't do a lot of things at all, but great for things like cropping, rotating, and altering brightness/contrast.

I later found out that Photo Editor will open/save .pcxs, but I think saving with it is what caused a brief rash of blue boxes around my bases.

Increasingly, I'm tweaking colors in PhotoShop. I'm slowly learning how to do stuff and using it for more, despite its over-complex interface.

We're off-topic for the thread, now. If you have any more graphics questions, (and I hope you do,) you might want to start a new thread in the creation sub-forum, or ask in "How I spent MY day". I know two ways to do scan lines that I've never seen anyone describe...

Wouldn't you agree that datalink entries ought to err on the terse and dry side? Not as terse as the originals, I hope, but still.

In that light, your lovely phrase "a veritable psychiatric leper colony" is too colorful.

I like the insertion of conscripted, but it's poor form to assign possessives to things when you could attach them to people, so how about "borehole technicians, invariably conscripts, are subject to high attrition rates." (The simpler "conscripted borehole technicians are subject to high attrition rates." would imply that there are a lot of non-conscripts.
