Hi all, forum newbie here
I've been playing classic smac for about a year. Recently a problem arose with defensive facilities. Namely, I can build perimeter defenses and tachyon fields but they don't operate at all! The effects don't appear on the 'defensive strength' readout and more importantly, the defenders just get trashed pretty quickly.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times, I tried with and without the smac 4.0 patch, with and without smacx installed, and finally borrowed a friend's copy of smac. Nothing doing. Now I've got a new pc (thanks people for the help with the 'cpu not supported' thing), upgraded to Win2000 (yes i've tried the compatibility patch) and everything is now just fine - except for my defensive facilities.
I am going spare! Call me a wuss but I'm not aggressive, I like a long slow comfortable build game, and I'm not happy without good defenses.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it? Sorry if the answer is somewhere on the forum but I've been looking for some time here and haven't found it yet.
Cheers.
