Might that Resonance capability cause it to defend with its weapon when being attacked by Psi?
But I'm not attacking with Psi - my weapon is Shard. Its like theres 2 different algorhythms at work here: one stating that since the defender is using Psi, therefore Psi combat is mandated, and the other stating that if the defender is AA, then its weapon is used.
Anyhoo, I tested the situation mano-a-mano (i.e. an AA unit attacking another AA unit), and heres what I got:

    • I believe there are several algorithms the computer uses for an attack and defense. The computer will choose the one with the highest chance of winning for the defender. The only thing that throws a wrench in this hypothesis is when a penetrator attacked my base with a SAM rover inside. Well, the SAM rover defended with its armor... ( >_<)

      • When a penetrator attacks a rover, the rover always defends with its armor. If the rover has AA, that may be a good thing-- If it has SAM, the rover will usually die quite easily.

A SAM air unit may scramble and defend with its weapon but I have never seen this behavior in a rover

        • Well, let me elaortate. With the SAM rover in the city, there was at least one AAA garrison or some other high armor unit that would have had a better chance of defending than a 1 armor rover.

            • This thread happened to >pop< into my head last night. I don't have a screenshot of it, but once I was at war with Svensgaard and he had ICSed some sea bases to the southwest of my main continent. After a while he informally truced me, so what I did was raise up all the land around his sea bases so he was basically stuck on a lake with his cities. I kept going and got most of them. It was really fun. I put a few cities inside so he couldn't harvest off the land and starved him to death.

                    • It has "Atomic Gamer.com" in the upper left corner. Could it be someones' Mod?

                      • I don't think a mod could alter the display layout that much. Yeecch, that orange and pink is nasty.

I actually like the base and solar collector icons, but the other improvements look like they should be bases.

                        • Indeed, I found the screenshot at AtomicGamer.com. That link leads to other screenies, including an interesting version of the Design Workshop.

                          • Hmmm. Maybe a few early SMAC screenshots were released to generate some buzz. But, they are usually a little closer to the final product.

                            • I'm new to this forum so I'm still catching up with the posts. This is kind of late to be commenting on this post, but perhaps it will shed some light for some.

A few turns later after my air force has eliminated all enemy forces in the region my assault force moves forward and enters the square where I had destroyed the mag tube. However the units that enter the square don't drop by one movement point as expected, and when I look at the square info it still says "Mag Tube"(see attached pic). Bug?
This is a bug that carried over from SMAC. The bug works like this: When destroying terrain improvements the program has two protocols, multiple improvements and singular improvements. The program also has two different type improvements, single stage improvements (most all) and two stage improvements (only road/magtube and farm/soil enricher that I know of). When you attempt to destroy an improvement and there are more than one in a square, it gives you a choice and always starts with the highest stage. When you attempt to destroy an improvement and there is only one in the square, it defaults to destroying the lowest stage first.

The graphics protocols apparently require that both stages be present to display the improvement, otherwise it won't display them. The only way to tell that they're still there is to check the the square itself (either with a unit on the square or by placing the cursor on the square.)

Since I only have SMAC, I can only surmise that this holds true for all two stage improvements.

                              • I had to revive this thread with this

Suddently out of nowhere these three AA's popped in at my base - assume that some poor IoD got whacked near to me - not that I mind that much

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
