yeah my diplomacy with the AI has always been lacking. It wasn't much better after I used 3 planetbusters . But even before that, it wasn't that great.

I can never get the things that you guys seem to get from the AI. They are always pissed at me. Even when I'm not on top of the power graph they rarely are nice to me.

I usually just give them what they want just to stay out of war. One time this game they asked for 4400 credits, because I had around 7000 at the time. That's why I try not to let that much acucmulate. But sometimes I make so much energy, and nothing to spend it on.

      Spend it on research, then.
The AI tends not to like you if you lead in any of the categories on the powergraph.

With 7000 money I would start hurrying everything after its off the first row of minerals. Alternatively, Marine Control Centre Cruiser Probe teams can have movement of 9 at elite and so can almost sit outside aircraft range and mind control cities that riot or which the entire air force moves to.

Turning yangs 22 missile penetrators upon his own units is fun.

Since I once upon a time gave a demanded research and got the answer "thank you very much - and now we are going to destroy you", I have never given anything away unless I got something in return (except map info for reseach). Usually a 40 % of the time there is a deal and eventually a treaty, another 40 % where they wont trade but keeps peace and only go to war for the rest. That is though not that big a problem because after a couple of lost attacks they usually ask for peace, wich I so grant. That is of course if I'm ready for some conquest and they happen to be the victim . The only real stubborn is Svensgard, but since he thinks that the best tactic is to blast away at my improvements, I just sink his ships with my formers.

As others has said, use those credits on research and secondly on hurry base impovements - they are worthless in stock and you regret your stockpile when the market crashes and most of your wealth dissapear.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Dammit - hit the quote instead of edit -

Played another game last night. Same settings except I used a large world instead of a huge world. And same arid planet. I like arid. Same factions except I replaced the second morgan faction with planet of cult.

Yet this game I utterly dominated. There was no contest. The only significant SP I missed was hunter-seeker algorithm. I started next to the data angels too. But I just build lots of probes.

I guess it's good that not every game is the same, or this game would get boring real quick. But it's funny the other factions never amounted to much in this game. My starting position wasn't that great. but I did have a nutrient and mineral resource nearby, I think that helped alot. I started next to mt. planet volcano again. But everything else was arid and the land was pretty much worthless until I forested it. I used a slightly tighter base formation though, but I wouldn't think it would have that much impact.

The morgans never did anything this game. The only faction of significance was the data angels.

One more thing. I've noticed when you aren't in a truce/treaty or vendetta (there is nothing next to the faction name in the window in the lower right) that their probes can steal your formers and crawlers without actually going to war with you. I was nice and let them take a couple of my formers, but when they went onto my cralwers I declared war and forced a quick blood truce.

I really think that there was something wrong there, since I did the same thing and I swear I hit edit.

What Land/sea percentage are you using ?

I typically use 70-90 % sea, and that changes the game considerably.

I use the middle setting almost always. It gives medium sized continents. I also launched a solar shade, but this was only when global warming was going on (caused by the gaians of all people).

I also used the middle setting for erosion. I can't remember what that does. I noticed it adds 1 or 2 moons on the screen, but I can't remember what it does. I think it has less high elevation land or something.

Yeah, it gives med siz continents, but last time I tried I started on a 3x3 island just bleow a landmass - couldn't do any tricks before finish of WP

You are right - erosion specifies elevation, but I always get it wrong wich way it is.

Map of Planet seems most balanced, so I use it...plus, I save the game a second time under scenario editor so I can plan where to place condensors and rivers to get the most effect...
