  • What is your background music in SMAC/X?

Anyone not tired with the "ambient" music? As most of you know its possible to play your own background music leaving winamp on while playing. The winamp controls may not work but with a little playlist editing its not a problem.

I usually play either classical, Vivaldi, Chopin, Mozart etc. something similarly "light" or soundtracks like Vangelis - Blade Runner or Brian Eno/Toto - The Dune. I guess Cowboy Bebop soundtrack would be pretty awesome too, has anyone tried it? Sometimes I play acoustic guitar music like Jose Gonzales or Marc Antoine. Once I even tried classical chinese music, wich was beautiful of course.

on a side note if I would ever play Miriam I guess playing Beethoven or Bach would be almost spiritual experience.

So what do you play? Classical? Jazz? Hardcore/Gabber-techno? Or just ambient or soundtracks?

Saishuu Heiki Kanojo + Planet Busters!

BTW, the Winamp controls work fine with Alpha Centauri, for me.

Load up winamp.....load the "AlmostEverything" playlist.....hit shuffle and listen to my 1700 song jukebox.

I don't listen to anything particularly ambient. Mainly 70's punk rock and indie stuff.

I simply listen to my set of 230 tracks... +1 empty track at the beginning... just named '0' (goes to top of alphabetical sorting) and is a split second of silence, but that way, the first song I hear is completely random

I also have a smaller set of .mids that are great too

As for problems with Winamp, I have indeed noticed a problem with clicking on winamp, the buttons aren't where they're supposed to be during and after playing smac... They're all shifted left and down(i think) a bit

I rather like the ambient soundtrack.

Wouldn't be quite the same without. Sometimes I turn it down a bit though, if there's something particularly good on the radio.

I find that Bjork is particularly good background music for SMAC, though I play quite a variety of stuff including the ambient music that plays in game.

I like SMAC ambient music too. Don't like to play with music that can distract me from my ultimate goal: to crush Yang and Miriam.

Mostly Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, and some various electronic music. That covers most research and industrial factions... Morgans too, if only in an ironic way, I guess.

Portishead and Massive Attack for when I feel like Gaian.

Occasionally my classical war music for when the game is ON and there's nukes everywhere. Total Annihilation soundtrack is perfect.
