  • Questions on energy and projectile armors/weapons...

Okay, so I was looking through the alpha.txt or whatever and saw this thing about how weapons and armors are characterized in three categories: energy and projectile. I don't remember the third one, I think it was binary or something like that.

It also said that energy weapons get bonuses against projectile armors, and vise versa. It also said binary (or whatever it is) weapons get no bonuses.

Any of you know what all this is about? Does it actually apply in the game? Or is it just some idea that was supposed to be in the game but got canceled?

I haven't seen any bonuses based on weapon type, but I have seen bonuses appearing out of nowhere (the strength value doubled without explenation), I think this is based on the skill you play (I haven't really looked for it, but I've seen it if I play like civilian for some reason

The projectile/energy impacts were aparently planned but not implemented. They are still referenced in some game files.

Can you immagine how bad the AI would be if we had another layer of complexity in designing an adequate military force

I assume then binary is like psi and such? Or perhaps I'm wrong...

Binary was supposed to be armors that work against both. But they never implemented that idea so you can say that in SMAX all armors belong to binary type.

This really would make the game more confusing, but also more realistic...

This is because reality is confusing.
So play SMAC so you don't have to think about reality.

But they are my friends (except Miriam and Yang, and that Chinese Kid), don't you see? It IS reality...

If by 'friend' you mean 'planetbuster target' then yes.

I suppose it depends on who you ask to define friend...

                        Dieidre would say a tree...
                        Yang himself...
                        Zak his beloved technology...

                        And the list goes on...

Well, they're not exactly my friends. I don't believe a game should be made too real. Then people would put their effort into their virtual life and forget about their real life. What a future society that would be. Minus 5 of everything on SE, except fun, that would be +1000...
