  • Planetary Governor Newbmiester

Ok, I've recently started back into SMAC with a vengeance after a year off. And I can't for the life of me figure out the damnable infiltrator access of the Planetary Governor. I remember when I played SMAC previously and become the PLanetary Governor, I was able to see all opposing faction work queues, SP and the like. As I'm a newbie once more, I've become Planetary Governor but can't seem how to figure out how to see what the opposing factions are up to. I double click on a factions base with no results. I could've sworn that when I did that before, it allowed me to see what was going on in their base. Someone please slap me silly and paint me red. Then tell me what I'm doing wrong

Hit the F2 function key. This brings up your own factions current tech research. At the bottom of this screen you see the icons for the other six factions, and below that 7 icons representing lab summart, energy, bases, secret projects, satellites, command nexus and finally, alpha centauri score.

Clicking on any one of these latter seven brings up your own faction display. Clicking on any faction icon brings up that faction's display for that particular screen choice.

A shortcut to the other factions bases is just to hit F4 - this brings up your own bases list with the ability to look at production, citizens and garrison. At the foot of that screen you again see the six factions - click on any one of them to see their base list. Click on a base to see what it's status, garrison, facilities, etc are

(I don't know why directly clicking on another faction's base on the map doesn't work - it should if you are Governor, just as it should if you were pacted with that faction)

Crap, makes me think something is wrong with my installition. When I press 'F2' the only faction displaying are the one I have Pact Brotherhood with. I agree, i should be able to double click on any factions city and see what is going on, but nothing happens. Also, I remember when I as governor before, every factions base showed what it was currently building on the world map screen so you could get a quick look at what each base's current production. Not so in this case, None of the factions' bases display their current production. I know I have that feature enabled too, because I can see my own bases current produciton on the worl map. Wondering if I'm doing something wron or enabled a hot key or game feature that may disable this Planetary Governor perk.

I've retained my election twice now, it's about time I reap the benefits of being a governor, dash it all!!!

Attach a save here, so that we see if we are going to get the same message.

          Not sure I follow, Obstructor.

Any one run into this before? I logged back into my game, sure enough I'm the Planetary Governor and I it appears I don't have any infiltration for any factions other than my Pact Brothers. Hope someone can help because it's driving me bonkers.

Most probably, you are mistaken about being Governor.

One other thing...the governorship does NOT give infiltration on Progenitor factions. (Crossfire only, of course)

              Part one: make a save.
Part two: attach it in your psot
Part three: we download the turn and test the save if we get the same problem
Part four: we report the result here.

                  Here are the save files...

I'm attaching 2 save files. The first is right before I get elected, the second is right after I'm elected. By the way, I started a brand new game and got re-elected again, still getting the same error. I defitnitely know I'm not mistaken on becoming governor, something else is going on here.

                    Second save file after election

This is a Pre-emptive thank you for taking a look at these save files. Hope you don't mind the Willow references

Maybe I should mention this is just SMAC, not Alien Crossfire. Sorry for the triple post, I sould have edited my thread.

I downloaded your save and everything works as expected. You may not have the most recent SMAC patch (version 3). According to the readme, this patch fixed problems with the Governor accessing other faction information.

I concur with Petek. It worked for me too. Have you installed the patches? You should get 4.0 as soon as possible.

I have no problems getting information down.
                            Patchage would indeed help.

Talking about patches, when is version 5.0 coming out? Heard about it somewhere.
