Yes, I just don't want it on the damn profile. This is a common sense thing but I've *****ed about this for years.

Is no one here technically capable of removing the creepy stalker features of the site or is it something that you genuinely want?

It is under discussion. I suspect nobody noticed it, and your original complaint was lost in the large list of issues earlier It is on for vb3 by default, so it's likely not intentional. I'll follow up when there is a decision (read: when Dan is on).

We are currently looking at all the default settings to see if they should be changed. That's one worth considering

Even in vB3, I have not found any option to date that allows the disabling of the requirement to fill in some text for the "Last Name" in one's user profile here -- otherwise, I would have done so (and long ago re: vB2).

If I've overlooked it in vB3, I'm sure I or someone else will come across it sooner rather than later and make that change.

The only options that I have come across in this regard is with respect to email address, e.g. at registration, and to make it so that users are required to provide a date of birth (the latter of which is disabled here).

On a semi-related point, when it comes to what data in your profile is accessible to 'netizens' at large you have some control through privacy options.
