  • PolyCast Episode 24: "Let's Get It On"

If you enjoyed the three back-to-back-to-back weeks of PolyCast earlier this summer, then what its team is bringing you as the summer draws nearer to a close should make you smile again. Regular co-hosts Daniel "DanQ" Quick, Makaluha, Imran "Imran Siddiqui" Siddiqui and returning guest co-host Ming are joined by first-timers Solver and Dan "DanT" Tee in not one but two episodes being released in successive weeks.

The first of these is "Let's Get It On", the series' twenty-fourth episode. With a total runtime is 59m:49s (28.7MB), this installment includes the continuation of the three-part chat with Civilization IV: Gold Edition poster artist Greg Hildebrandt. In the upcoming landmark twenty-fifth episode, the same co-hosts return with an in-depth look on an item that could impact the gaming industry as a whole along with the conclusion to the Hildebrandt interview. The following week will see the release of episode twenty-six with another varied panel.

PolyCast is the official regularly bi-weekly, one-hour podcast of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) in an effort to give the Civ community now an interactive voice. ACS is the first and to date only known Civ fansite to produce its own podcast.

Something general that I'm curious about - are all of you in the same timezone, or do you have to juggle times with the other participants? All American-based (or Canadian, I suppose), or have there been some European or Asian contributions before now?

I don't know where most of you are from, but Maki is Texan, and Ming is Evil, so that at least is the same timezone, right?

Given that Locutus is Dutch, that means that all episodes have participants from different continents Well, Locutus missed a couple, and I think there was an early episode with North American participants only, but most are multicontinental.

            you too
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Many moons ago I tried listening to a polycast and the sound quality was such (and/or my ability to understand the words), that it was a total turn-off.

Now I have listened to #24, #23, and #22, and subscribed!

I suspect that the episode you listened to some time before back was no later than #18. The reason I say this is because it was as of the release of #19 that I introduced another element to my post-production arsenal on episodes: a utility that levels the audio of all participants.

Shortly after #19's release, I went back through PC's archive and gave a similar treatment to earlier episodes and other productions.

                  Great to hear, Jaybe

Yeah, our sound quality has gradually but significantly improved over time, and we continue to work on improving it further. The first episodes are just painful to listen to now (though in all fairness they were indeed only barely listenable at first release). Since we always have guests on with widely varying quality of equipment (*cough* Jon *cough* ) we'll probably never sound quite as well as we might like to but the sound quality is something we continuously look to improve (within the constraints of our schedules and budget).

Send a request to me via PM for consideration -- it's through it that guest co-host arrangements are made.
