Yeah, but you're hardly going to expect a charity to give you your money back...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Hardly - in those cases the organisations are trying to change the world in some way. Message boards are basically about entertainment and socialising. Perhaps with some education thrown in.

Apolyton is neither a political party nor a charity. Nor a NGO of some sorts. Besides, any time you purchase a service, you should read the rules. PLUS rules have said that there would be no refunds all along.

PolyPLUS, to my understanding, was never about making money. It was a symbolic way of actively covering the costs of running the site. Passively collecting money off of advertising banners does nothing for the continuation of the healthy community needed to keep a site like this running. Asking members of that community to actively give over a token amount to contribute to the costs does. I now want that token amount back.

having people give money for participating in a community is a way to grow the community?!?

Yes. The bills need to be paid regardless. Having a sugar daddy foot the bill or relying on advertising is all well and good. But this creates an active bond between member and community. It's the exact same thing as passing around a collection plate at a church.

Yep... and at church, people don't ask for their money back

not really, people donate to the church thinking they will be saved from eternal hell

as for plus, when the "bonded" member requests a money refund from the community then your concept has failed
