CFC may be more active today, but Apolyton still has lots and lots of users. So they're still standing to gain a considerable increase in userbase, including lots of prolific posters. There are many Apolytoners featured as Civ4 playtesters, for example.

Our diplogaming and democracy game community is also much more active than theirs, for example.

CFC Moderators are either fully in on an elaborate hoax, are themselves deceived and are genuinely revolting. Some have already announced their opposition to having to pay for any content and are announcing their plans to break off and form a new site, they already have a little insta-forum thrown up which is intended to serve as the scaffold for a new site. Some of the other members are speaking of an 'Insurgency' and the overthrow of ThunderFall.

Apolyton PLUS isn't needed for any content, the main perk is the bigger forum avatar, bragging rights and some small tweeks/speed up of the forums, bigger mail box etc etc.

You get some bonus benefits (like adfree site) when subscribed to APO plus service. I subscribed for a year and liked it a lot, but I got tired of Civ3 and as Civ4 sucked my interests shifted and now I'm mostly just a lurker here

Actually, the requests to improve our entry started at the end of the last year in another thread, after a deletion vote on Wiki. And the discussion with Thunderfall on merging the sites came this year.
