I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

      Re:what is a DG game

That is absolutely amazing, how did you guys come up with that? I'm a fanatic when it comes to my Civ's, I mean I portray the leader in which I'm controlling, and I mean I do research of the era, the leaders, etc. (In scenarios) and I do a fair amount of the same in a MP or pbem game, some think its interesting, others say what ever hurry up, so a role of a cabinet member would be interesting.
But I still have a couple of questions
1; do the citizens play the turn(s) before the presedent or are the decisions being made based on the turn prior?
2; if a group of decision makers are playing a single game, thats one particular civilization, is each turn absolutey maximized resulting in a game win
3; how long has this kind of game here been going on and how long does it take to play a turn(s)
4; when you have more citizens than required for that game what happens?
      Thank you for your reply

The turn is played live on mIRC - the President calls for a "Turn Chat" - posts then times etc.

All citizens are welcome at the chat - many decisions are made by vote - so attending citizens who are not ministers still get input.

It is encouraged that players do not "play ahead" - this removes the fun team aspect.

Many decisions are made before the chat - tech choices - city placement - pretty much anything you can run a poll on in the forum.

Declarations of war can only be made when the appropriate poll has been run.

          Yes.

Each turn can take quite a while to play - much discussion, checking and debating Work Force placement.

It does depend where the game is at - for example - early on chats can consist of a lot of "End Turn", "End Turn".

But later in the game a 4 hour long turn chat may only contain 3 turns.

If you are refering to the current SPDG - about 4 ish months.

If you are refering to demogames on Apolyton - no idea - but I will point someone who may well know, in the general direction of this thread.

Cannot happen. In fact the opposite is the real problem situation at times.

In essense - the more active citizens there are the better. The more polls's and discussion there is the better.

Quite often like minded citizens form voting blocks - or "political parties" - which can really add interest to the game.

It certainly makes the elections more interesting.

The "Executive" generally has to follow the results of the public polls. While they are not always constitutionally bound to do so - they usually do - as they need to be re-elected every month.....

Occasionally things will happen during the Turn Chat whereby the President has to make a decision that goes against the public polls - but not very often. If it is a major decision - then usually the Turn Chat ends there - and the issue is taken to the citizens.

Good example of a turn chat:

                Turn Chat

Near the end of page 2 the actual chat is posted.

So the chat on the IRC channel is logged - and then reproduced (with slight edits mainly as this is a family site ) for all to see. No hidden decisions etc.

I don't know when SPDGs first started at Apolyton. Civ2 days i'm fairly sure; definitely SMAC.

MPDGs... six years maybe? 2001ish if not a year or two before that.
