Nice bump. I guess Solver is still "aware of the issues" since nothing has changed in the 8 months since.
Many things have changed over the last 8 months. And there will many more changes in the near future. It's a big site and we all know it needs a lot of work.
This time, listen to Ming though. Many things have changed, though it's in the nature of it all that much isn't visible to you folks. And I know that ultimately visible changes are what matters. Still, we're now actually at a stage where we can say that there will be visible changes in the near future.

I know very well how that works.
I'm also involved in the production of web-based applications, and I realize you must have been making tons of stuff in the DB and backbone system.
Clearly they're receiving staff attention. It's just that layout issues are quite possibly the hardest ones to fix, which is why you don't see an immediate improvement.

Ming: I appreciate that you guys are working on changes. Heaven knows we need it. As Chris said in the other thread, this place hasn't changed much for years, and there are many things that HAS to change. I know the forum software is hacked and all, but we really need a renewal there. Not that I know, but there ought to be a few members of the site that knows tech good enough to help you do what is necessary a bit faster?
Actually, while I probably will get massive problems surviving(), I think that if you guys shut down the forum for a few days, you perhaps could use the extra time not moderating doing some of the changes faster? I don't know if it is doable, but if it is, I'm sure it would do more good than bad.
BTW, can you reveal what plans you have for the near future, just so we can drool while we wait?

QFT
it would probably be good, in the long run, if 'Poly was "under construction" for a few days, or even a week, so the massive overhaul to an updated VBB/software/layout/whatever.
it would be a very LONG week for most of us, granted, but it would DRASTICALLY help things long-term.
We already have proficient staff members working on the issues, Gramphos first and foremost. He's highly proficient as far as server and web software goes
Shutting the forum down would not speed anything up significantly. The people doing most of the moderation (Ming, rah, Dan) don't have the technical skills, while people like Locutus and Gramphos, who are responsible for most of our tech stuff, don't do much moderating.

Maybe you should *cough* *cough* seperate layout from content *cough* *cough* use CSS positioning *cough**cough*
Which is why we really need to take the step over to the modern world. But I guess that's in the making?
