  • Adding an image to a post

Is it possible to add an image inside your post without hosting it somewhere on the web? Is the only other option to have the image as a downloadable file instead of seeing it with the text of the post?

When posting a message, there's an "attach file" section (at the bottom of the 'reply to topic' screen. Just browse to your file on the hd (only one file per post though)
This space is empty... or is it?

And if it's for on-topic (i.e. Civ-related) use, you can use your upload space on Apolyton:
Civilization II: maps, guides, links, scenarios, patches and utilities (+ Civ2Tech and CivEngineer)

You can only attach pictures by using the "Post Reply" button though, not through the quick reply.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

If you use the "Preview Post" button at the bottom, then most likely you won't be able to see it, but if you know it's under the size limit for an attachment, and in one of the required formats, then it'll appear on your post when you click to OK it.

Since you can't add a file to a post when editing it, only when creating it, this can be a great way to get +1s, but only if you either edit the first post to say "image not attached properly", or put that as the text in the second post. Mind you - do this too often, and the mods will crush you for it!

Right but when i put it there it usually just shows a link to download the file, not displaying it in the text.

I would say check the file size but then you should get an error message if its too big

                  Just a thought was all

Either GT's right, and you need to check size and/or filesize - it will only show 800x600 or smaller (well, more specifically 800xanything), and there's an upper limit of ... 100kb? or something like that.

                    Or there's a file-type problem ... is it a standard filetype (jpg/gif/png)?

You have to resize them first, civ4 screenshots default to whatever your resolution is, probably 1024x768 or bigger...

Try Uploading them (the "upload file" link up above the thread) and when you do that, it should give you a couple of thumbnail options for posting in threads. Play with that, try posting various thumbnails to see the effect they have.

Here's a pic of me showing you how to do this, conveniently uploaded for irony's sake.
