Civ IV and GalCiv II in the same year! This is going to be good! Thanks for the great coverage Mark and Dan!

CalCiv... I demand a CalCiv scenario for Civ4 out of the box! Or a separate game somewhat akin to Oregon Trail...

I have GalCiv and Alterian Prophacy

                  They are both good IMHO.

                      I am.

Not much to see yet... a lot of screens and functionality aren't in yet.

                        Hi Kloreep.
Let us know if anything interesting shows up....if you are allowed to that is.

There's no NDA, so I'm allowed to. Just not much to say yet. Beta 1 really lacks basic gameplay, so it's hard for me to form an impression of what the final product will be like.

Hmm... what can I judge already.

Well, the move to 3D is working out well. Planets actually look unique; even I, who didn't play much GalCiv 1, got to know what GalCiv 1 planets looked like and knew the look of every Class 14+ planet by heart. Not the case here.

Ship Design isn't balanced yet (nothing is) so I can't comment on it gameplay-wise, but I think it'll be very cool. If you've read the Developer Journals over at galciv2.com you may have heard of "Bling" but if not, let me fill you in: They're structural components you can add to ships. They don't really do much gameplay-wise - they don't take up any of the Size stats that limits the amount of stuff you can put on your ship, and they don't affect its stats - but they allow you to customize your ships' looks in addition to their actual stats. Another reason the move to 3D is good.

                            Thanks Kloreep.
                            It sounds interesting.

i am also a beta tester. the new 3D engine is very good. the game is still buggy but tats wut this stage is for, to get out the bugs. they didnt give us too much eye candy on the ships so i cant judge tat. the new way u build improvements on planets is cool. u have a limited number of tiles to build on. but, things lik farms ship excess food to other planets. diplomacy and trade arent in yet and the AI is primitive, but they're workin on tat for the future beat's. the new ship design looks good but can be a little frustrating at times. overall, there is still much work to be done but its not comin out for almost a year so my hopes are high.

I could never get into CalCiv but I guess poly has to do something to keep the user numbers growing.
