  • A.C.S. Announces "GalCiv II" Coverage

Apolyton Civilization Site ( http://apolyton.net ) [ACS], one the premiere online fansites for the Civilization computer strategy gaming series and its extended family, is today announcing a commitment to continue coverage of the Galactic Civilizations line-up. From developer Stardock Systems, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords is to be covered in full on ACS as are its predecessor and expansion packs. News items for the sequel are currently housed in the ‘Miscellaneous’ section of the site, and will continue to be so until a complete section for GalCiv II is compiled and online.

"The GalCiv has a loyal and growing fanbase", says ACS Co-Owner/Administrator Daniel “DanQ” Quick, "and we are proud to be among them. Its introduction into the turn-based strategy (TBS) genre for the PC was an incredible success, especially given the direct competition it faced as a strategy title in an outerspace setting. There were many in the industry that underestimated the likely impact GalCiv would have as both a reinvention and reinvigoration from the OS/2 platform. We didn’t, and we certainly aren’t going to start now".

ACS’ original coverage was limited to Civilization, Civilization II, and Civilization: Call to Power back when it officially launched in July of 1998. Since then, Apolyton has added coverage to Civilization III, Call to Power II, Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion III, Galactic Civilizations, Rise of Nations, the now-defunct Dinosaurs endeavour and numerous so-called ‘Alternative Civs’ most notably Freeciv.

At what stage did you describe the Galciv fan base as growing?

Just because you don't play it

Seriously, though. GalCiv is a great game. I really can't figure out what so many have against it. It beats the hell out of MoO3, and is a close second to MoO2 in the race for best space 4x ever.

I didn't say it was bad.

I said the fanbase wasn't growing, not lately anyway.

And from what I've seen so far, I think GalCiv2 may beat MoO2 if you don't mind the lack of tactical combat.

Just because the appropriate forum on Apolyton is dead, doesn't mean that the game is dead.

The game is still very much alive. As is the franchise. With GalCiv II coming up, the GalCiv universe is alive and kicking.

It's alive, okay. Alive and well.

Well, I started to play the game.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Dan, you forgot to note that I was the one who got Markos and Brad together.

As a random, completely unrelated fact, scholars once believed that the Earth was the centre of the universe.
