Why do the forum pages seem to be getting wider and wider?

Poly used to fit quite well into my browser window (except when people posted huge images, but that's to be expected).

Now I have to extend my window almost all the way across the screen to read posts. Otherwise I get a scrollbar at the bottom and I have to go left and right. I use 1024x768 which is not an unreasonable resolution to use.

Is there any way we can configure our accounts so that the forums will scale to a smaller window?

OK -- scratch that. It works OK in this thread, but not some others. Hmmm.

Damn - as soon as I edited this post it went back to being crap again. Grr..

I think we had this discussion a few years. IIRC I thought the forums did scale depending on your resolution, but you'd be better waiting for one of the admins to fill you in about it.

My computer is old, it won't scale up to that.

What is annoying is that it will change depending on which page you are looking at. That's what is annoying, since I have to keep changing window size (admittedly that just involves pressing the green button, but it is annoying).

How about an option to display Poly at a specific size.? Is that feasible?

Here is normal for me so you can see what I mean. In this pic, it's OK. But it will change depending on page.

Poly is the only forum that this happens to me on.

Does it have something to do with the way people are inputting text?

Thanks. I tried since then and have changed it to the shortest one possible. I am still puzzled. I will try changing theme.

I've changed to the default theme and that seems to have fixed it.

I remember why I changed from that. I can never remember what the buttons do. I'm dumb: I need the names.

This thread can be deleted now. No post count increases for frivolous questions!!!

I have 1600x1200 and always seem to have a scroll bar with only max. 1 mm possible scrolling lenght... No problem though, but it is a bit weird...

There's a difference between how the different forum styles handle attachments, which is rather annoying...

On the Default style, all posts have the same width, so if one person posts a wide image attachment, the entire page becomes unreadable on lower screen resolutions.

On the Default-Special and Default-Ultra-Special styles, all posts have their own width, so an image attachment will only affect the width of that one post, not the entire page.

There are two ways to fix this: (1) change the behavior of the post tables in the Default style to that of the other styles, or (2) reduce the maximum width for attached images. 600 pixels works nicely.

The width limit for attached images is fine. It's hotlinked images which can be more than 600 pixels. I guess it's possible to force them to be scaled down.

That's because of the "Go(N)" button next to the news drop-down box at the top of each forum page. It's just a tad too far to the right.

This can be fixed quite easily, though. The news form table cell should be changed to align left.

I've tested it in Opera 7.54, IE6.0 and Firefox 1.0. The only thing it changes is that Firefox no longer gets the annoying horizontal scrollbar.

That'd be really nice as it is a waste of space.

Also the "GO" button next to the forum jump listbox keeps changing places.
Sometimes it's next to it on the right, other times it's beneath it to the left. ( which I actually prefer. The closer to the centre the better IMHO.)

I get that in Firefox and Camino, but not Safari, so it must be a Gecko thing.
