The JavaScript edit function: Check it out!
You can directly edit your postings by just double clicking them. After you have finished editing the post, you'll be asked if you want to save it (which then should send a request to the server - not implemented in this example).
Here is a technology preview (download the file).
In this preview you can edit postings of all (2) users, which is not what we would want for the real version, but easy to control. It's cool because it's in place editing! Check it out!
It's not compatible with bbcode yet.
to answer your questions beforehand:
1. I am just a little bit drunk
2. this idea was floating around in my mind for a long time now
3. JS is soo cool
4. CHECK IT OUT!
UPDATE I: Added ability to revert
UPDATE II: Added preview for WYSIWYG editing
Tested on Firefox 1.0, Internet Explorer 6 SP2, Opera 7.54
