This is rather strange since all three web addresses should correspond to only one IP address. I think it is 207.44.244.82

Depends how they block it.........mostly it wont work.

I didn't have time to test the proxy yet, but it wont work easily, since IE doesn't have the usual internet options. I might have to install another browser.

Anyone know how to set it up with Opera?

Are you allowed to install things on your office computer?

Another option for you is a wireless router and your home laptop. Although I have no knowledge of British wireless services.

GPRS is an option too. Also coupled with your home laptop.

He doesn't have a laptop, and his employers are even more careful with the laptops they give out (if he were ever to be deemed worthy of one) than they are with the desktops.

The only option left is to install Opera (which I'll have to take in on a cd as browser downloads are blocked also) and set up a proxy.

Not sure if it is worth it though. They will be able to deduce what I am doing quite easily, and it might not be worth the hassle.

Does not look good. Maybe it is time to take the IT guys some doughnuts and beg. Considering the stakes, there is no dishonor involved. Good luck.

Go demand a raise or you'll quit. When they look at you in shock give them the option that enabling you to access 'poly in your lunch breaks will do. I'm sure they'll let you then.

I'm being daring, I'm posting this message whilst I sit next to the FD of the company.

You know its amazing what having your desk 1m away from the FD's can do to the productivity of both.

                            No, Fish Doctor.

Dauphin works in an aquatic hospital.

And a lot of good work he does too.

I'm possibly about to have a similar problem. At the moment we have a local server based about five metres from my desk (it's good to have the air conditioning), and another server based in Holland. And we get 2 PCs to run the different programs on. Before anyone says anything, yes it is a really dumb thing to do, and any normal company who didn't have a corporate deal with Dell would just get 2 network cards for a single machine, but things aren't normal here. Anyhoose, the local IT wallah doesn't give a toss what you look at on-line, provided that images from same can be posted at 'poly without Ming minding (if only that was the criterion he used. ) so I can browse 'poly pretty much all day between pieces of work. Unfortunately, the Dutch IT gurus are far more hardline and will kick my ass if I spend all day at 'poly (yet again). This may not happen straight away, and I'm looking for a new job anyway, but it would be nice to either have your own business or just work in rah's office (or something). I bet he's a decent manager really.
In fact, it would be really nice to be a student again. And not just for the easy tail, as our Pond-opposite friends might say.

Being a student is super. If you like eating rice 3 meals a day.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I love eating rice 3 meals a day. If only I would have time to cook a proper rice porridge.
