    Conversely, today's players can study and dissect each other's skills via up-to-the-minute video analysis.
    But the idea of pitchers throwing every 4th day, where complete games (and well over 300 innings/year) were expected, does suggest both familiarity (fewer teams, too) and facing a lot of tired arms.

      Or does throwing a lot build up the arm stamina to the point where there's not a lot of drop off. And/or they learned to pace themselves.

        I'm not buying the "build up arm stamina" argument from an era when no one really worked out.
        I do think the market has learned to embrace having 13 pitchers on a typical active roster so they can use fireballing "middle relievers" as fresh meat starting with the 3rd time through the lineup.
