Literally everyone I replaced Wednesday night from my Monday prelim selections (Mickelson, Holmes, Stefani, Howell) is now T12 or better going into the weekend.
Guess I'm my own worst enemy. Sometimes I hate this game.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Don't worry about appearing to brag, we're all behind you rooting you on.
It's always interesting to watch this as the year goes on to see if the leaders were only leaders by burning starts. If you can maintain a ranking anywhere near the top, it will be quite impressive. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Well you've hit the nail on the head of course: its a long term game and it would be very surprising to be able to constantly remain on top of the rankings until season ends...
However on the Starts theory, I learned 2 things in those 10 years of playing Yahoo:
1- Watching Tony Bogey he never really cared about starts and always played his best line-up regardless! Many times I thought it would break his season's end game but that never happened... He always beat me That was an eye-opener.
2- There are streaky players in Golf: missing out on that streak to save starts can really hurt you in the end if/when that player has gone cold, its a bigger gamble to not select a hot player than to miss out because that player is hot again at another time in the year (ie the chance that happens is very small). Example: Jimmy Walker last year (and this one?): very hot to start then cooled off - or Zach Johnson who gets hot in the summer...
3- The FedEx playoff format is really when the Starts come into play and the last few years have been dominated by players who got hot right at the end (ie Stenson and Horschel, the 2 best examples) : only Tiger has been tricky for starts as he would dominate a large # of tournaments+majors and you were bound to be short of starts, now it's not so obvious anymore...
Right now the only starts I've really burned are Jordan Spieth's
My gut feeling tells me he's a streaky player - the chance he keeps performing at that level (4th, T17th, 1st, 2nd, T2nd) all year long is very small - if you miss out on this streak you need him to 1) reproduce it exactly later in the year plus 2) be sure that you are on it from the get go and can fully take advantage of it... Looks like too many unknowns to me.

Btw I really thought I would lose Ranking last week, I was extremely surprised to gain so much on the field...
Especially since my Spring ranking was like 14.000 something at one point!! It was pure luck that not many of the Top 25 had a great week last week...

Yeah my dad and I always argued on the strat. He was conscious about that starts but as you say he never let it scare him from using a guy. He was a firm believer in streaks and the next man standing strat.
And Yes the FedEx cup did slightly modify it a bit because you had to have someone left for the last two tournaments.
But since my dad kicked my ASS almost every time and way, I have to credit his strat was better than mine. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

So that's it... Masters under way!
I love to watch the Masters, however I hate it as a Fantasy game: I always sucked hard this week, it usually signifies the start of my long descent into Fantasy Golf Irrelevancy every year...
So I agonized even more this year than all others of course Again the strategy of defending my lead and not missing out on the favorites did take over from what my picks would have been if I was behind and needed to make up 250+ points behind the leader like all of you not named Berz
I just can't resist giving another line-up though as I really would have liked to take way more risks so so much:
Group A: Ryan Palmer, Adam Scott
Group B: Paul Casey (almost swapped him with DJ in my real line-up: he comes out #1 in my stats+form+ history analysis!!) Ian Poulter Brandt Snedeker Jason Day (unavoidable)
Group C: Ryan Moore Louis Oosthuizen
Another fun game, I can not play Draft Kings (you need a US-based credit card) - which might be better for my sanity and finances - but here are my 2 entries for the 1 Million $ game:
Entry 1
A Scott
V Dubuisson
Brandt
Palmer
Poulter
Casey
Entry 2:
Bubba
Day
Casey
Palmer
Henley

Crap. Why did I leave Spieth and Day on the bench? Bad choice of B's today.Last edited by Demonbinder; April 9, 2015, 22:58.
