  • Right after saying Josh McDaniels would be back next year, Pat Bowlen fired him.
The dreaded "vote of confidence" strikes again.

    • And no, the Broncos didn't play the Packers. The 49ers did on Sunday, however.

      • Goodbye to Mike Singletary then.
I hear that Jed York is enamored of Jon Gruden.

        • Jon Gruden would be a mistake for anyone. Gruden is given way too much credit for winning that Super Bowl with the team Tony Dungy built against his old team, the Raiders. It was a perfect storm for a first-year head coach and Gruden could never make Tampa a force after that.

Gruden is also sucky at developing young QB's. His offense is needlessly complicated and only veterans like Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson, Brian Griese, and Jeff Garcia ever made sense of it.

          • The Jets fired Rex Ryan? Pardon me, but I think that was way too much overreaction to getting beat on by the Patriots. A record of 9-3 and they boot him? Idiocy.
I don't care about Ryan one way or the other, but that's stupid.

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr., AP Sports Writer – 2 hrs 23 mins ago

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The New York Jets went to New England looking to make a statement.

                  They did. The wrong one.

A day after being embarrassed on national television, the Jets were wondering how everything went so wrong in a 45-3 drubbing on Monday night.

"It was the game of the year," a bloodshot-eyed coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday. "The unfortunate thing is I feel bad for ourselves, obviously, our fans and, really, the NFL. The NFL deserved a better game than that, but we weren't up to the task."

That was clear early in the Jets' most lopsided loss since falling to the Miami Dolphins in 1986 by the same score. New York was 10-1 at that point, and that defeat, along with injuries, sparked a five-game losing streak.

Ryan acknowledged that there's plenty the Jets (9-3) need to fix before their game Sunday against the Dolphins (6-6) to avoid a similar fate. He said he never left the facility after getting back from the game early Tuesday morning.

"We got pummeled, we played terrible, but it's one game," Ryan said. "Everything we talked about is still attainable."

                  • Where the hell does it say he was fired?

Is this a game, Sloww? Are you trying to trick me?

                        • Bored, so I decided to mess around. Although, I'm about to go to the VFW. Maybe I'll at least be loose and not bored when I get back.

                          • I want to know when Marvin Lewis will get fired. I always feel like teams have too much of a 'win-now' attitude and never stick with a coach long enough but it boggles my mind how Marvin Lewis is still coaching the Bengals and how he's never even really in hotseat discussions.

This is his 8th season and he's 58-63-1 with only two above .500 seasons and two playoff appearances (both losses). What? Is he just good enough he's not worth firing? Why are the Bengals like the only team that would stick with a guy who averages less than .500 over 8 years.

                            • Maybe all the thugs on that team just told the owner they'd knife him if he fired a brutha.
I keep hearing that this is his last year and it's a done deal. But it seems like I've heard that before.

                              • Jack Del Rio is the same way. He's also in his 8th year and he's in that same middling range that Lewis is in. The Jaguars have somehow taken the lead in the AFC South and with the way the Colts, Titans, and Texans are all sliding, Del Rio has pulled another safe season out of his ass but seriously what's up with his 8-year tenure?
