Urban Meyer leaving Florida (apparently this time for good). With this and the Saban to WVU rumors, combined with Auburn's impending federal investigation troubles (the FBI is crawling all over them right now), the rest of the SEC must be feel happy...

      • I could ask all Auburn fans the same thing. The amount of Kool-Aid they've drunk is amazing.

        • Not buying into a fanciful rumor that started with a post on TiderInsider is hardly drinking the Kool-Aid.

Cam Newton's dad will not attend Heisman ceremony (AP) - 32 minutes ago

AP - The father of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton said Thursday he will not attend the Heisman Trophy award ceremony because his presence might "rob Cam and the event of a sacred moment."

            • There's something "sacred" about somebody getting a sports award? And this from a preacher?

                        • I saw this spurred by the Students thread and thought to post it here. It's all sports, not just college football, but interesting nonetheless:

Schools with the highest percentage of expenditures on athletics versus instruction:

                          University of Arkansas……….56.5%
                          University of Alabama………..50.2%
                          University of Tulsa…………….48.1%
                          University of Nebraska……….45.9%
                          Texas Christian University…..43.2%
                          Oklahoma University………….41.2%
                          Auburn University……………..40.8%
                          University of Mississippi……..35.6%
                          Louisiana State University……33.8%
                          Clemson University…………….33.4%

Schools with the lowest percentage of athletic expenditures versus instruction:

                          Vanderbilt University…………..6.4%
                          UCLA………………………………..7.1%
                          University of Washington……..7.3%
                          Stanford University……………..7.5%
                          University of Buffalo……………7.6%
                          Duke University…………………7.8%
                          Temple University………………8.0%
                          Rutgers University……………..8.6%
                          Brigham Young University…..8.9%
                          Northwestern University……..9.0%
I guess it's good Temple is one of the most academically-centered schools in the country.

                          • Woot, Rutgers on the low % list

Both Alabama and Auburn on the high % list is no surprise (though Alabama, and Arkansas, over 50% makes on think that instead of academic institutions that have athletics, they are more athletic institutions that have academics!), but I'm kind of surprised that UGA isn't there.

                            • The next coach of the U is Al Golden

Al Golden has been offered and accepted the Miami coaching job, a source confirmed on Sunday.

The University of Miami hired Al Golden to be its next football coach Sunday evening.

The school will introduce Golden in a news conference Monday.

The 41-year-old Golden spent five seasons at Temple, transforming the Owls from a program that was 1-11 in his first season to winning 17 games in his past two seasons at the Philadelphia school.

This also makes for good ammunition against the SEC dullards who try to make Phil Knight's generosity to Oregon athletics an issue.
