  • I worked with Bosworth's dad. Brian milked the system and got in and out by design.
Personally, I don't care for the guy, but he had an agenda and met it.

    • In that case, he was highly successful. I keep telling my younger brother to do that, but he's all "I don't like football".

      • Four old declining running backs better than three?

Even though the Washington Redskins have added Larry Johnson and Willie Parker to a backfield that includes Clinton Portis, the team has invited Brian Westbrook for a visit on Wednesday, according to sources.

Westbrook comes highly recommended by his former Eagles teammate, Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb, who apparently has made his case for the running back since McNabb was acquired by Washington in a trade, a source said.

Westbrook, who was released by the Eagles in February, has passed a physical with the St. Louis Rams, where he also has a familiarity with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, a former Eagles assistant.

Westbrook's ailments that have passed physical screenings include knee and ankle injuries, as well as multiple concussions.

The Redskins have the first organized team activity May 17-19; their level of interest in Westbrook is unknown. Dialogue between the two sides has been ongoing.

        • I thought the Rams were signing Westbrook?

I can't see Washington bringing in another veteran back. I mean we all know how Mike Shanahan is but no offense is going to be able to give carries to all these guys to make them useful (it will be one hell of a different offense than what McNabb is used to though!). I imagine one is going to get cut before the season starts (probably Parker) but it would make more sense to get a young guy off the waiver wire and, taking advantage of all these accomplished veterans, develop him into at least a good #2 back down the line.

If they really want to have a shot at taking the division this year, they need to listen to McNabb's other advice to bring in Terrel Owens. Receiver is hardly a strong point for the Skins but they could be so much better bringing in a distraction to open things up for Santana Moss. Marshall or Santonio Holmes in Washington would have been scary.

And in defense of 'old declining runningbacks', does anyone not think that if you give Portis, LJ, and Parker 6-10 carries a game that they wouldn't all be dangerous and averaging at least 4.5 ypc? They would always be fresh. Mike Shanahan knows what he's doing and he's been damned good at it for years.

          • Yeah, I expect Washington to be quite like a typical Shanahan team. Which means avoiding their RBs like the plague in fantasy football drafts.

            • None of those 4 can carry a team. Evidently, it's thought that each of them is 1/4 of their old self. They could be right.

Hand, who played for five NFL teams, dies in South Carolina at 37

                Associated Press

WALTERBORO, S.C. -- Former NFL defensive tackle Norman Hand died at age 37 after collapsing at his home in South Carolina.

Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said Hand collapsed at his home in Walterboro, S.C., about 11 a.m. Friday and died about 90 minutes later at a local hospital.

The cause of death hasn't been determined. The coroner said an autopsy is planned Saturday. He said Hand's family was with him when he died.

Hand's 10-year NFL career included playing stints with the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants. Hand, who had 22.5 career sacks, was drafted in the fifth round by the Dolphins in 1995 after playing at Mississippi.
