  • I can tell you a step that could be taken that would go a long way towards solving this mess. Most here won't agree, but, that's OK.

Mountain West is viewed by many as minor league. Attach them to Big 12.
WAC is viewed similarly. Attach them to PAC 10.

In MWC, TCU was ranked higher than Nebraska. If "in a rare instance" a MWC team is rated higher, they play Texas instead.

WAC, ditto. PAC 10 is going to have to split like Big 12.
The same would be done around the country to each major conference.

    TCU vs. Texas
    Boise vs. Oregon

    • Boise already beat Oregon once this season. And Texas wouldn't be a worthwhile competitor for TCU. Texas needed a miracle to beat Nebraska, for god's sake.

      • Then Boise should be replacing Oregon in the Bowl in which Oregon is playing, had it come as a more playoff scenario. As for Texas vs. TCU, we'll never know.

        • Why the hell would Boise prefer to play in the Rose Bowl against a 10-2, #8 Ohio State team when they can play in the Fiesta Bowl against an undefeated, #4 TCU team? Jesus Sloww, try to use what little brains you have...

          • Boise State will be moving to the MWC within 5 years. Making 7 BCS conferences. The MWC will have to be included at that point.

Yeah... what a farce the whole system is. Only a moron would think it's a good thing. But then again, we are talking about you. Maybe you are the one that should just try to use what little brains you have.

              • I thought the MWC had already turned Boise St. down.

Look, on the field, college football is a terrific sport, one of the best.

When it comes to determining a "national champion", it is no better than figure skating or gymnastics or diving. Not a sport at all.

                • While it's not at the top of things I think seriously about, I'm opposed to any playoff system where only the top team from each conference participates (since the various conferences have no parity).

My personal preference is for new conferences modelled on the european soccer leagues. Successfull teams move up to better conferences while unsuccessful teams move down. Boise State and TCU may be good teams but until the play in a conference like the SEC they'll always be 'second rate' to me.

                  • As soon as the cowards from the SEC play Boise State and TCU, instead of Charleston Southern,Florida International, North Texas, Tenn-Chattanooga, Louisiana-Lafayette, Western Kentucky, Furman, Eastern Michigan, Missouri State, Memphis, Southeastern Louisiana, then you can talk.

People talk about a playoff making the regular season games less important, but the current format makes SEC teams play lesser schools, because they have nothing to win by playing Boise State, TCU, Utah, BYU etc...

SOS is an inbred system, Alabama's is 4 because they play SEC teams, which are always going to be rated higher than thy're worth, simply because of the reputation of the SEC.

While the conferences they are in may not be as good overall as the "supposed majors", it doesn't mean that the top teams are second rate. But we will never know just how good they really are because of the crappy BCS system. Maybe someday, the NCAA will take back ownership of their own game.

Tone down the mouthiness and pay attention, Drake.
The whole scenario would have changed if the smaller conferences and any relevant rankings were added as I outlined.

Boise State played 1 top 25 team (Oregon) and won in a low scoring game. All their other games were against nobodies. Until they play a tougher schedule, who cares if they are undefeated. They dont even deserve a BCS bowl game IMO. Cincinnati played a tougher schedule than Boise but no where near the competition of the SEC or even the Big 12 (which isnt so big this year IMO).

                              • SOS can be quite subjective. You have a conference that schedules most of it's non-conference games against sisters of the poor. Do you really know how good the conference is until it plays real teams from other conferences in the end of year bowls. If they had a good pre-season ranking then the conference was considered strong. Granted I think it sometimes gets it right, but it shouldn't be the end all of deciding factors. But lacking others methods of replacing it, it will reign supreme.
