I'm shocked, shocked, that Bama and Florida are the worst offenders.

    • Yes... SHOCKED!

Wouldn't it be easier and more in keeping with the "traditions" of college football to legislate that teams have to balance their home and away games vs giving the visitor team 3 points

      • Hmm, I think I rather be arguing which team is best in a one point game because one of the teams had home field advantage than a one point game only because of an imperfect handicap assigned.

I'm shocked that Texas isn't right there with them. UT must have 8 home games next year...

Any game in Texas is a home game with the exception of Red River Shoot Out, TCU and Texas Tech. UTEP is a home game. Rice is a home game, Texas A&M is a home game, Baylor is a home game.

            • To recap what this means... Florida and Alabama are buying a 12 point edge at the start of the season.

You can't use overwhelming fan support for the road team to count a road game as actually a home game. If we go by that standard, Nebraska would've had an extra home game the year they played in South Bend...

Certainly I can. See, what should be factored into home field advantage is attendance polling that determines the skew of allegiance of fans at the game. Are you saying crowd allegiance doesn't factor into the home field advantage?

                  • I have edited my list to account for the neutral site games. Bama's buying 12 points at the beginning of the season and Florida 9 points.

This is getting into Football RPG territory here.

                      • Again... it's more in line with college tradition to balance the schedule vs giving a vistor an arbitrary 3 point lead.

I remember going to a Cubs Game in Milwaukee one year, and there far more Cub fans than Milwaukee fans. It sounded more like Wrigley Field.

                        • I would be for a mandated balanced schedule. However, I note that the rationale for several stadium expansions/constructions was the asymmetrical schedules.

What neutral site game did Florida play? Are you counting the The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party? What about Bama's neutral site game against Virginia Tech?

Yes, that's the Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Re the Va. Tech game, I'll make that fix.

As we stand, Fla. is buying 9 and Bama's buying 9.

I just didn't like your justification. It's the same justification used to try to ruin college football with playoffs.

I do think you're underestimating the difficulty of assigning home-field advantage handicaps to college football games before they take place, however.
High schools have playoffs. Pros have playoffs. What is so special about college football? It's the only sport that doesn't have a playoff.
