I think my connection this year may have been worse than last. Which, again, is kind of odd because I went through a full mock draft yesterday without one connectivity issue.
I hear you Kontiki, I think I am estimating conservatively when I say that I think I was disconnected about 50 times during the course of the draft. Frustrating. Last year I had no problems.

Well if you had stayed online it could have gotten QUITE expensive-- I had the same idea of Ovechkin no matter what
-- When would you have bailed?
I have been thinking about this since last night and still not sure of my answer, but I can see myself going to $80 without any problem....how about you?
My logic was the the top 5 LW's, Ovechkin is clearly the class of them and the talent drops of fast. Top 5 centres, Crosby/Malkin are tops, but it doesn't drop off as quickly and they arn't so far out in front.

How does the trading work? And what about replacing dropped players?
My understanding of the latter is that the person at the top of the list picks a new replacement, then drops to the bottom of the list, and works his way back to the top as everyone else gets a pick, and the cycle continues ad infinitum? And each person gets a certain amount of time to make a pick, and then automatically drops to the bottom of the list? Is that right?
Cam Barker a decent pick as a defender?

You can add/drop whenever you want, whomever you want. Waivers only apply to players dropped recently (last 2 days), then it's in order of waiver priority. You're talking about a draft, which is the other way of initially selecting players [we had an auction].
Trading works in that you offer whatever to someone else and they accept or decline it...

I found it interesting to look at the auction by value spent. It really shows how we all "overspent" early and there was a lot of value late
This actually seems to happen in every single auction league I've been in. The bargains you can get at the end are incredible.

I wouldn't say 'overspent' early on. There are only so many players with a significant differential to average in an 8 team league; you do well 'overspending'. Flubber, Sparrowhawk, and Boo did most of the 'overspending' , and I have a feeling those three may well be the top three in the league this year. I got a bit screwed up by taking my practice auction the night before - when the prices started going beyond that, I started to hold off, but I definitely should've gone in for Crosby or at least Datsyuk at those prices.

Hell, even at the beginning there were bargains. Crosby went for $20 more than Datsyuk!
I know!! I thought that was a good deal but I was waiting for Crosby and I also hoped and thought I could get centres for cheaper generally- I probably overpaid for Crosby but when you can get Toews and Vinny for as cheap as I did, I ended up not regretting it
There were actually lots of folks that I thought went cheap at various points but in an 8 team draft there is so many undrafted good players that its not surprising that decent folks went real cheap

Thats why I put overspent in quotes. We did overspend early in the sense that there are a whole bunch of folks that went for way more than similar level folks that went later-- I don't regret spending lots on the elite few players. I went in the draft knowing I was unlikely to compete for the top d and goalies and being totally willing to have several one buck players. I had actually gone in thinking I would go have some one buck goalies but then adapted when I saw I could get some decent goalies by spending in the teens for each-- I actually ended up being reasonably pleased with my goalies with the main issue for me being they are all pretty similar so I won't know who to sit

Oh and I looked at the schedule for the first "week" and it doesn't look like our benches will matter all that much that week-- Almost every team plays on the same nights so the first week might come down to who can figure out who will have a great night

I think you're placing far too much emphasis on a select few players, especially given the style of league we have. I will be very surprised if those three teams are the top three, with the obvious wildcard being injuries.
