That's quite a ****ty reason for it being "right"? You know, the whole "if everyone was jumping off a bridge... " thing?

The tie has been "reduced to two teams" because Oklahoma blasted TT out of the water.
Suppose Oklahoma just beat them by 10 or something. Then you'd still feel like it was a three way tie that needs to be broken - probably by common opponent performance and stuff. Oklahoma has the other two teams beat there.
So, what you're saying is that precisely because Oklahoma destroyed TT, they don't deserve to be ranked the best. That is an absurd conclusion, so the thinking that leads you there is wrong.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell was recovering Monday from surgery to repair nine breaks in two fingers of his non-throwing hand, but he won't miss any playing time.
School spokesman Chris Cook confirmed the extent of the injury and the surgery Sunday, but didn't have specifics on how the injury was incurred during Saturday's 35-28 win over Baylor. Surgeons inserted 17 pins and two plates into the little and ring fingers of Harrell's left hand.
Harrell, a contender for the Heisman Trophy, will play when the No. 8 Red Raiders (11-1) appear in their ninth straight bowl, likely the Cotton Bowl.
The fifth-year senior, the nation's leading passer, played in the second half and finished with 309 yards and two touchdowns, the second one coming midway through the fourth quarter to cap a 21-point rally by the Red Raiders.
Without breaching his own policy on commenting on injuries, coach Mike Leach called Harrell "incredibly courageous" for his second-half performance.
Harrell's backup, Taylor Potts, began warming up on the sideline just before the start of the second half before Harrell returned to the field with black tape around the fingers.

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who won 85 games and one SEC championship in 10 seasons, won't return as the Tigers' coach in 2009, multiple sources close to the situation confirmed on Wednesday.

One bad season is not enough justification to pull the plug. The athletic administration at Auburn will regret this.

Perhaps not, but Tuberville was acting very erratic this season. What was with canning the offensive coordinator in like the 4th game and then continuing to run his offense after getting rid of Borges, who wasn't half bad.
Now, if they can get Cutliffe (who's at Duke right now), this may work out in their favor.

Tuberville was under way more scrutiny than usual this year because of the Tony Franklin hire. The spread is completely antithetical to how things have always been done offensively at Auburn, and I had the feeling Tuberville knew that he was going to be unfairly made the scapegoat if it failed.
With the spread not producing the fireworks that Franklin had promised, he ended up pulling the plug too soon on the experiment to appease the boosters and went back to the old way mid-season. Without any continuity in the offensive system, it was a recipe ripe for disaster and the team completely imploded as a result.
In short, Tuberville was caught in a lose-lose situation and did the best he could, but certain individuals have had it in for him for a while and this was all the excuse they needed.

Well, having the HC acting like he had no clue what he was doing is usually a recipe for failure .

Texas is clearly the #1 team in the nation. We beat OU on a neutral field, and our only loss was to Texas Tech in the last second of the game, immediately following a play where Graham Harrell threw an interception that a freshman defender ****ed up.
OU's loss was, resoundingly, to us, again on a neutral field. Then, Tech lost to OU by an embarrassing margin. Also, consider UT's schedule - OU, Mizzou, Oklahoma State, and Tech in consecutive games, of which we beat 3 of them by a considerable margin and barely lost the last one (with, by the way, Orakpo hurt and Qwan Crosby not even in the game at all). How you can rank either team above Texas is insane. Putting Alabama or Florida in the same ballpark as EITHER Texas or OU is also insane.
I'm not happy about this, but can see why you would be ecstatic.
That said, probably 4 assistant coaches will be replaced. (1) Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs; (2) Offensive Line; (3) Defensive Line; and (4) Strength & Conditioning.
Most of the defensive coaching staff is top notch, so I'm not sad to see them stay.

How you can rank either team above Texas is insane.
Because we've looked at the entire season, not an arbitrary one head to head matchup. As pointed out, based on point differential, OU beats down both Texas and Texas Tech.
Putting Alabama or Florida in the same ballpark as EITHER Texas or OU is also insane.
Saying that is insane is the insane part here. Alabama and Florida are CLEARLY in the same ballpark. And plenty believe that one or the other is BETTER than both OU and Texas.

I don't think the buyout had anything to do with it.
Notre Dame is a unique school in that proceeds from the profitable football program go directly to the school's general fund. Also, the school has an endowment of about $7 billion. So if the football program truly needs some investment, then the school will make it happen.
As an example, Ty Willingham was on the payroll for 3 years after he was fired, since he had a 6 year contract. Notre Dame was paying 2 head coaches at the same time.
