Great oppty for Atlanta -- Tommie Harris made a stupid play, trying to get up after recovering a fumble. And just... dropes... the... ball...

        Around the early games:

Drew Brees is a perfect 14/14 against the Raiders. Through five games, he is on pace to shatter Dan Marino's passing yards/season record. He is easily the best quarterback in the league right now, given the current injury situation, and I'd go so far as to say that he's better than a healthy Brady, too. He's probably not better than a healthy Manning, though.

Peyton Manning is back. The Titans' apparent dominance of the AFC South is going to be short-lived.

Matt Ryan is the best rookie quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger.

Joe Flacco is not in the same league as Ryan.

The Dolphins are making the Texans look silly with new variants to the Wildcat. (Brown hands off to Williams, Williams reverses it to Pennington, Pennington throws a bomb.)

The Bears need to get some offense going. I think the defense has been great to only have given up 9 points so far.

OK, they moved the ball and took their shot. Gould puts The Beloved on the board.

Drew Brees's perfect game ends with the 17th pass.

At the time of this writing, Drew Brees has played 5.5 games. His numbers on the season until now: 149/212 for 1844 yards.

Prorate that to a full season: 433/617 for 5364 yards.

I keep waiting for someone to blow up the Fins with this gimmicky offense, but they just keep fooling people and getting points on the board.

                  Man, Matt Ryan looks great.

I will say that on draft day I was hoping for Glenn Dorsey and then Brian Brohm with the 2nd pick as the starting QB. But I'm ecstatic with Ryan right now and am glad the Falcons didn't do what I wanted on draft day!!

The 1st round picks of Ryan and Baker (who has been key to solidifying the OLine) have been brilliant. In Dimitroff, they have a great GM. And I really like what Mike Smith is doing as HC.

It may be a few years before the team is a playoff contender, but it's a great foundation.

                    • Let's not overlook their defense. Looks quite solid. If the defense achieves consistency, playoff prospects get a lot closer, in a hurry.

                      • The defense has some big flaws, really. They don't really have good DTs. And new safeties are desperately needed. Right now, since John Abraham is healthy a lot of flaws are covered over, since he's a beast at getting to the QB, meaning the secondary doesn't have to work as hard (though Chris Houston has been very good at CB). He's fairly injury prone though, so

                              • Orton and Forte are are looking really nice on this drive. Forte, I knew was going to be good (great fantasy pick in one of my leagues by me ), but Orton is a surprise.
