    The PGA Masters vs the NHL

    I just watched a night full of excellent hockey.

    Following that was the PGA tour.

    What a CULTURE SHOCK.

    How the hell can anyone enjoy this? I'm AMAZED this can be so popular to watch.

    Pure silence for minutes at a time, lots of nothing, then a WHACK. Then nothing til you see where it went. Then golfclapping.

    KILL ME NOW.

      Ming in 3... 2... 1 .

      I don't enjoy watching golf, but I do enjoy watching curling. I guess its about watch the strategy in both sports (what to do after you hit a bad shot and whatnot).

      Hell, poker is massively popular on TV for, I'm guessing, similar reasons.

        Curling is good to watch
        Golf is boring
        Poker is the worst

          Oh, and I also imagine a lot of it is people who realize how hard golf is because they've played it and are in awe of some of these players who can make it look so easy.

            I recognize the legitimate difficulty of the game, but that doesn't make it interesting.

              ...to you.

              Obviously, golf doesn't aspire to be like hockey. They are different animals, or apples and oranges, to mix metaphors. Those of us who play golf and know how pressure affects the game find it fascinating to watch the pros. Plus, the Masters is a rite of spring. It signals the start of the season for many of us.

                  Any sport that is only interesting to those who've played it should not be on mainstream sport channels. To me that indicates there's little interesting about the sport, except the aspect of hero worship.

                    For me, it's more a study in excellence. Trust me, there's no hero worship involved. Children have heroes.

                    As far as what "should" be televised on which channel, we all know that is determined by the marketplace -- viewership/demographics, plus advertising dollars -- not the merits of the content.

                      Golf is interesting primarily to older people who enjoy a more relaxed pace. You're young and prefer fast paced action

                          First off did you tivo the masters or something because they don't play golf at night.

                          Golf>Hockey, I already proved this in the other thread Asher. Even great hockey players admit golf is the harder sport, live with it. Hockey is by far the most boring sport on tv, which is why it's hardly on tv. I tried to watch the outdoor hockey game they had in NY or somewhere. It went like this lets pass the puck around for 5 mins, then get into a fake fight, fix the ice, pass the puck around again. If hockey wants to be taken seriously as a sport they should stop the fake fights that stuff belongs in the WWE

                          Golf on the other hand, takes skill and mental toughness. Watching Snekeder fall apart on amen's corner then go 3 under for the rest of the holes was more exiting than any hockey game in the history of hockey. Watching tiger save par from out of the woods on 18th was just brilliant.

                          BTW, golf constantly gets higher ratings than hockey so

                              I don't know if you're aware of it, but sometimes television stations will air sporting events which were previously taped.
