  • College Football Thread --Countdown to Kickoff

Hot off the presses. Notre Dame snagged Jon Tenuta as its new linebacker/assistant head coach. Replacing Bill Lewis, who led the defensive backs, who is retiring from coaching. Corwin Brown, Defensive Coordinator, probably will coach defensive backs now as well.

One of these years, ND's D is going to be lights out.

ND's fan boards are rife with anger that rivals.com let the cat out of the bag before NSD.

    The old thread...

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

When are ND fans not rife with anger?

The big question now is where is that QB out of Pennsylvania going to land? Penn Stat, Mich, tOSU or Oregon are the schools I heard mentioned yesterday

      TOWER SIGHTING!!!
      How's it going, man?

Ron Zook seems to think that Illinois had a good recruiting year. Even stole a skill position player from Cleveland away from OSU...

It seems that all the sites agree that Alabama had the best day.

Notre Dame and Miami (FL) also had great days.

It's anybody's guess where Pryor is going. Last I heard, Michigan is probably out of it. Oregon probably was never in it.

While there's no law that you have to sign on the first date allowed, and it might make sense sometimes to wait a little, it does seem he likes he's a media whore.

Alabama and Miami had great days, but each will only be able to have 28 of those 33 signees on their roster.

In the end, I rather like all of Notre Dame's class. Amazing that Weis kept it all together and added to it through this season.

Tennessee, Penn State, and Michigan State really crapped the bed.

Well, they can "greyshirt" them (which is something I just learned yesterday.

Well if Penn State lands Pryor, they'll have done well.

What with tuition at $35,000 per annum, I doubt Miami will have many grayshirts. Bama might be a different story -- don't know the tuition there.

Miami has a VERY well-funded academic scholarship program. If you're at all above average academically, you can cut that number in half, or even by 3/4 if you're strong. And I'm guessing the athletic dept. knows how to play that game very well.

I think that's against the rules, but in any event I heard that Miami had 9 early entry players, meaning that they could be applied to last year's limit as far as signings go. Also, apparently a grayshirt only needs to be for one semester.

I guess it's more doable than I considered.

I don't see how it could be against the rules for a football player to earn an academic scholarship (if legitimate). Now, I'd assume it's probably not legit, but ...

If it's against the rules for an actual football player to be so, perhaps they could offer them a 'redshirt' year where they're not on the team but they can try out and practice for next year, to the bottom ten or so signees...

Sadly, my beloved Vols had a dismal year on the recruiting front.

The loss of Cutcliffe was bad enough, but losing Trooper Taylor was the body blow to the class.

Still, the players we got have a lot of potential...they will just need the redshirt year to be a very productive one in the weight room.

The part that really sucks is that the hated Tide pulled out one of their best classes in recent memory. Makes one wonder just how many pickup trucks Saban had to spring for this year...
