Against the rules.
That's always stopped Miami in their tracks, hasn't it?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

A LOT of Texas high school players left the state. I think a record number.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Add Texas to that list, Oklahoma stole just about all of the top players on Max Brown's list from the state of Texas.Originally posted by DanS
Tennessee, Penn State, and Michigan State really crapped the bed.
I'll take that 18 (or 22) ranked recruiting class for Illinois, that's pretty wild. No absolute super stars like last year, but a much deeper class that will help in numerous areas right away.

I can't quite figure out Texas' class. They had so many early verbals (like usual). Was it that those verbals aren't that good?
I know that ND lost out on Buckner to Texas. Do you think this is an indication that Fullmer's on the way out? Or was it just a low number year? I've never known him to have poor recruiting classes... F.e. ND lost both Martin and Donald to him last year. (Not that ND didn't take some well-regarded folks from TN, but Martin and Donald were blue chips.)Originally posted by PLATO
Sadly, my beloved Vols had a dismal year on the recruiting front.
The loss of Cutcliffe was bad enough, but losing Trooper Taylor was the body blow to the class.Last edited by DanS; February 8, 2008, 01:30.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. No. The real problem this year was the loss of Trooper Taylor. He was in on nearly every big name kid the Vols were after. Cutcliffe did, supposedly, have Terrelle Pryor all but rapped up (with a little help from Bruce Pearl) until he left.Originally posted by DanS

There was good activity, but the loss 2 of the three real "deal closers" (Fulmer, Cutcliffe, Taylor) hurt really bad.
Tennessee went through a similar problem when they lost Rodney Garner to Georgia a few years ago. Phil will reload atrecruiting...have no doubt.
The word out of Knoxville this year is to expect a suprisingly good team, btw.

I believe it was in December when two fourth quarter interceptions kept the Vols from winning the SEC championship game from the eventual national champion LSU Tigers.Originally posted by H Tower
when was the last time Tenn was a contender for the SEC? This is coming from a Big10 fan, but I'd have to say he won't be around many more years if he keeps putting average teams on the field.
The Vols have played for the SEC Championship 3 out of the last 7 years and 2 out of the last 4. No wins in that time span is why so many think Fulmer is in trouble, but the truth is...if you could play for the SEC championship nearly 50% of the time, would you get rid of that coach?"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. Too many dark years before this to be anything but happy about where the Illini program is headed.
