    • I watched "Top 10 Bad Weather NFL Games" tonight. Fog Bowl and one that had slipped into the back of my mind, Pats vs. Miami when Ron Myer had the snow plow clear a spot on the field for the FG try. It was pretty funny watching it. The Pats players, looking like, "WTF? Well ok then, coach."

Also Top 10 Billy Badass RB's. I guess not surprising, Jim Brown was 1st. The one that impressed me the most, that was just at that time when I was kid beginning to watch, was Jim Taylor, at 4 or 5, right behind Earl Campbell.
This guy made Marion Barber look like a waltzer. He lived weights before lifting weights was standard.
In this one clip they showed, he made a run and I still didn't see what caused it, and the sound was down, but he reaches down and picks up this DL by the front outside of his shoulder pads. Lifts him up where the DL is on his toes, and Taylor has his face mask just right there, I'm sure saying something like, 'I'm about to kick your ass".
I wish I'd been able to watch him more.

      • After cutting Trent Green, Marty Booker, Keith Traylor and others the other day, now Miami is parting ways with Zach Thomas.

Source: Dolphins to release Thomas after 11 seasons

Zach Thomas, who has more tackles than any linebacker in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will be released by the Miami Dolphins, a league source said Thursday afternoon.

The Dolphins had no comment, but the source said the official move was likely to come Thursday afternoon. A fifth-round pick in 1996, Thomas has spent 11 seasons with the Dolphins, recording more than 1,500 tackles.

But Thomas' age and salary worked against him as the Dolphins begin a major rebuilding process with Bill Parcells running the front office and Tony Sparano taking over as coach. Thomas will turn 35 in September and was scheduled to make $5.65 million in base salary in 2008.

Thomas missed most of last season because of concussions and migraines and was placed on injured reserve against his wishes in December because of nagging migraines, an aftereffect of an Oct. 21 car crash.

Thomas has been selected to seven Pro Bowls and is one of only three players to record 100 tackles in each of his first 10 seasons. Speculation about Thomas' future first began as the Dolphins struggled through a 1-15 season.

The source said retirement is a possibility and Thomas will play again only if he can join a team that he views as having a legitimate shot at winning a Super Bowl.
Zach Thomas, who has more tackles than any linebacker in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was released by the Dolphins.

                        • so what's the rationale on the crumpler release? I haven't seen one anywhere. Age? Injuries? Money? Idiocy?

                              • excerpt from AJC.com

"Today we accomplished what we wanted to accomplish as far as refining this roster," general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. "Today, our salary cap is just shy of $17 million space. Will there be more moves in the near future or later? I can't answer that right now. I do know we will consider this process of evaluating the free-agent market as well as the draft dynamic and, at that time, we will re-evaluate if we need to make a move or not."

Team owner Arthur Blank said projections are to have at least $23 million to spend in free agency, so more changes, either player cuts or salary restructuring, could be in order.

                                ...

The commonality of the higher profile cuts Friday -- medical issues.

Crumpler, Gandy, Coleman and Leftwich were limited and missed playing time during the Falcons' 4-12 run last season because of injuries.

"We looked at all the issues, weighed in all the factors, and it's not only age and injury," said Dimitroff, adding that scheme-fit and long-term contributions also were factors.

Gandy (left knee), Coleman (right quadriceps, knee, triceps, pectoral) and Sanders (pectoral) finished the season on injured reserve. Crumpler, 30, never fully recovered from offseason knee surgery, missed two games and had his second-least productive season (42 catches, 444 yards, 5 touchdowns) of his stellar seven-year career.

If healthy, Crumpler isn't expected to be out of work for long. Tampa Bay and Seattle are among teams in significant need of a tight end, especially one of Crumpler's stature.
