    The Whiney Dolphins

    By Scott Blake, Florida Today
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Don Shula said he wouldn't begrudge the New England Patriots if they go undefeated this season, equaling the feat his 1972 Miami Dolphins achieved.
But the former Dolphins coach said a perfect Patriots season would be "tainted" by the so-called "Spygate" scandal.

The Patriots were fined $250,000 and forced to forfeit a first-round draft pick next year for allegedly recording the New York Jets' defensive signals and relaying them to Patriots players on the field during a game in September. In addition, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000.

The Patriots should have an asterisk by their name in the record books if they go undefeated, Shula said Tuesday, during a speech at Brevard Community College in Melbourne.

"We've been accused of being angry old men" when it comes to protecting the Dolphins' record as the only team in the Super Bowl era to go undefeated (17-0), Shula said.

That is not true, he said, but "we'll be watching with a great deal of interest."

In an interview after the speech, Shula said he was watching on Oct. 21 when the Patriots — now undefeated through nine games — pummeled the Dolphins 49-28 in Miami.

Belichick has been criticized for running up the score on opponents in the wake of the scandal.

Shula said he doesn't fault Belichick for sending star quarterback Tom Brady back into the Dolphins game with the Patriots leading by 21 points with just more than 10 minutes left to play.

"Belichick is a great coach," he said. "Brady is a great quarterback."

Shula said he doesn't buy arguments that Belichick's Patriots were singled out for spying when other teams do it. The severity of the Patriots' violation of league rules was evident, Shula said.

"Losing a first-round draft choice says a lot," he said, referring to the penalties imposed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
I really do want the Pats now to go undefeated and shut these whiners up. While trying to sound like a good sport, Shula sounds just like the angry old man that he denies he is... What a joke.

It's unfortunate that the Dolphins couldn't do their job and beat the Patriots (though they get another chance, right?) ... every year there's an undefeated team late in the season it seems like the Dolphins beat them to end it. I'm sure it doesn't happen that often, but it seems that way

And the then-undefeated Bears in 06, although they weren't the only ones of course Maybe it's just the Bears that are cursed by the Dolphins...

And my 'while you wait' quote...
The fellow sat down at a bar, ordered a drink and asked the bartender if he
wanted to hear a dumb-jock joke.
"Hey, buddy," the bartender replied, "you see those two guys next to
you? They used to be with the Chicago Bears. The two dudes behind you made
the U.S. Olympic wrestling team. And for you information, I used to play
            center at Notre Dame."
"Forget it," the customer said. "I don't want to explain it five
            times."

            priceless...

I'm disappointed in Shula about his asterisk comment, though.

Next time should be worse for the Colts.

Sure they probably get Harrison back but....

The next game will be in New England in January.

New England didn't play particularily well in the first game.

3 very questionable pass interference calls - 2 for big yardage that lead to points - went against the Patriots.

I'd say the Patriots should be favored by 8 or 9 in the rematch.

And they were indeed VERY questionable, and led to many of Indy's points. Granted, the Pats won in the end, but they could have been the main cause for victory if Indy had won.

The Pats defense is old and slow. Addai had no business running 73 yards on a screen play. The can and will be beaten by a fast team.

Detroit, yes, Detroit would give them a run for their money.

                    ACK!

Yeah, that play sucked, and it's not the first time they've had tackling issues this season. (Though I would be remiss in not mentioning the block in the back the refs missed on that play...not that it redeems them a whole lot given that two Pats also threw blocks in the back against their own teammates. ) But the way the Pats D was designed they knew going in Addai would have a big day. They played the whole game in nickel packages that were really dimes since Harrison often replaced one of the LB...not going to stop the Colts running game doing that, but apparently that wasn't their goal.

Detroit...well, they'd have a better shot than the Phins, I'll give them that.

I also find it funny that Pats fans are complaining of pass interference calls, when they have Randy "Master of the push-off" Moss on their team.

I'm not complaining, mind you, if you can get away with it, do it.

I don't see why there's a problem with Shula's statement. We penalize people for cheating. The Pats are being penalized for cheating. Assuming the Dolphins didn't cheat during their undefeated season, why is an asterisk so oout of the question? The Pats put themselves at risk. No one else put them in that position.
                          **** them.

                            *sigh*....see previous threads.

Though it should be noted that the Dolphins had a 1st round pick taken away for tampering when they hired Shula in the first place...his stance is that the camera stuff must have been severe because it cost the Pats a 1st and a big fine, but the only difference in penalties was the fine. It's the same problem as with most of the other criticisms of the Pats this year...the issue is the hypocrisy, not the criticism. If you want to complain about the Pats cheating and give them an asterisk, go for it. Then go back and do the same on every other team that can be connected with some kind of rules violation and see what a record book full of asterisks gets you.

There was at least one non-call on ellis hobbs that looked much worse than the two questionable ones.

I think Marvin is an incredibly big part to be missing - and more important honestly was Ugoh, the starting LT which is the lynchpin to any offense. I'm amazed Addai did as well as he did, to be honest, given the significant downgrate at LT...

For hiring Shula. You don't find that just a little different?
