    Pitcher beans a guy and gets 40 games? No?

    Worst hit in the NFL that gets a guy 4 games? I can only find susbstance abuse and gambling that get major time.

    How long was the suspension for the goons who went into the stands after fans in the NBA? 30 games was the longest, was it not?

    I'm not questioning the suspension. I am questioning the severity for the circumstances.

      Hmm. I guess Artest got longer for a season long ban early in the season. An MSNBC article I found lists 73 games.

      Does anyone have anything close for in-game fouls vs other players?

        Oh, and it is entirely cosmetic (the suspension).

        If the Flyers want him, they will call him up for every game they don't need him. He will have served 20 games before next training camp. It will cost the Flyers 1/4 of his NHL salary (as a rookie that's about $100K).

        So it's a big argument in a tea-cup... except that the NHL are being *****es to the media who are calling for far worse, and it is going to bite them (the NHL) in the ass... big time... the first time Pronger feels frisky with someone else's mellon, or somebody leaves their feet and it's a star player committing the foul...

        Idiots.

              For that matter, McSorely got 23 games, didn't he? A worse hit to be sure, but suspension inflation is a fact, he'd probably get 30-40 games now (and he wasn't a rookie, either).

                I take it you don't know about the 10 game rule for rookies.

                And yes, I'm sure this factored into it heavily. Suspend him for 3 games, then the Flyers "play" him for the first 3 games they didn't intend to play him anyway and he gets away with almost paralyzing and ending the career of an opponent for NO reason.

                It was a dirty hit in every possible way. There's no way this can be an "accidental" hit. Throw the book at these *******s, I'm sick of seeing it in the NHL.

                      I think the two attitudes go together, though. Fighting = aggressive actions encouraged; very hard hits from behind = aggressive actions also. Even though you're right that the latter is clearly wrong and has no place in hockey, I think the presence of fighting encourages the mindset that encourages dirty hits.

                        No, I think fighting will give players an avenue to get out physical aggression without cheap hits.

                              I don't think people can always control their emotions.

                              I think fighting is a good part of hockey, and a consensual part. It impacts the gameplay mechanics, and serves as an avenue to replace cheapshots with consensual fighting.
