I thought Pitkanen would at least warrant a response from Asher.

A "good pick " if nothing else

Anyway, glad the draft is done , I am impressed we got it done in 10 days , last year was quick but I don't think we finished it in 10 days, though that was with 2 more teams, 1 in Finland (and like this year, one in Hong Kong). Kudo's to all

Pitkanen will single handedly cost you several points. I'm excited he was drafted.

That's more like it! I was picking him partially because I knew you wanted him

Edit: I'd also point out that prior to last year he had two years where his +/- was decent, +15 and +22.

So the main reason he was such a big - last year was the Flyers. As long as he is on a decent defensive.....oh oh, I begin to see the error in my own logic .

          Go Oilers!

The Flyers even have a better goaltender than the Oilers, and also didn't have to deal with someone like Souray.

This year will be SPECTACULAR. A young, error-prone group forwards with Pitkanen and Souray on defense. I'm so excited@!

Wow, two goalies both from the same team... do teams always play 3 games a week?

No, for those weeks he'll need to draft a new guy temporarily. Which is fun given the starters are all gone.

This has Oscar written all over it:

The Toronto Maple Leafs were chased out of the Air Canada Centre this morning in order to allow Canadian actor and avid Leafs fanatic Mike Myers to shoot his new film, The Love Guru.

Myers wrote the comedy film that is centred around a 40-year-old Stanley Cup drought (man, is this far fetched) by the Leafs. Myers plays a self-help expert who is challenged to settle a rift between a star on the Leafs (Romany Malco) and his estranged wife. After the split, the wife begins dating Los Angeles Kings star Jacques Grande (Justin Timberlake) out of revenge. This sends her husband into a professional skid, to the horror of Leafs team owner (Jessica Alba) and coach (Verne Troyer). Yes, Troyer is the Mini-Me character of Austin Powers fame. A release is planned for June 20, 2008.

Oh Lord... Mini-Me as the coach... Justin Timberlake as a hockey player. Jessica Alba has team owner.

Who casted this? A Montreal fan?

Doable though-- There are some good backups and if you pay attantion, you can hear when they are going to play. ( Heck there must be a bunch of guys that did or will play 25+ games that are not drafted)

But now if say there are a few people all trying to get that same backup goalie for the same night....

Well since all but Mrboo and perhaps NYE (is goalie situation in LA settled) currently have two expected starters on their team, the compettition for those backups might be weak.

Even though opponents may try to restrict the availability of such keepers I don't really think you can do it effectively. There are just too many keepers out there

I was just looking at the draft results and although people stressed different things, it (unsurprisingly with the tight bench) ended up like this

                              - everyone has 3 defencemen
-- everyone has 2 or 3 goalies which means that we all have 8 or 9 forwards

On the forwards 9 of 12 went with a balance of 3-3-2 or 3-3-3 across the positions ( you can probably add NYE since his 4 RW stack included Rolston who I think was cross listed)

Tinkai and Mr Boo went a different way as each picked 5 centres to go with two wingers each side. Does it mean anything? who the heck knows?

Oh and I am going to the "Dome" tonight to see the Flames and San Jose. Even though its only pre-season, it adds a little flavor to be looking at players live Nabokov and Carle as "my guys".

I can see that when they play for real I'm going to want Calgay to win like 8-7 with Carle and Tanguay racking up points , Nabokov sitting out for a rest after his 8 game winning streak and Marlau, Thornton, Iggy and Langkow tossed out in a first period fight
