  • Eagles release 4-time Pro Bowler Trotter in surprise move

By RANDY PENNELL, Associated Press Writer
    August 21, 2007

    AP - Aug 21, 11:24 am EDT

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter was released by the Eagles on Tuesday, a surprising end to the Pro Bowl player's second stint with Philadelphia.

Coach Andy Reid informed Trotter of his decision Monday night during an emotional meeting. Trotter was a fan favorite because of his intensity, big hits and candor

"Jeremiah and I have been together for many years and he's played a vital role in helping this team win a lot of football games," Reid said in a statement. "He developed himself into a Pro Bowl middle linebacker through a lot of hard work and desire. In my mind, he will always be a Philadelphia Eagle and I'm sure he feels the same way."

The team scheduled a news conference with Trotter for Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Trotter spent four seasons in Philadelphia before an acrimonious departure as a free agent after the 2001 season. Trotter spent two unsuccessful years with the Washington Redskins, but made amends with Reid and signed a one-year deal with the Eagles following the 2003 season.

He started the 2004 season on special teams but ended up in the Pro Bowl. He had been the starter in the middle since.

The Eagles drafted Trotter out of Stephen F. Austin in the third round in 1998. He became the starting middle linebacker the next season and set a career high with 202 tackles in 1999.

    • Johnson agrees to six-year deal
Chiefs back ends holdout, shows up at practice

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City running back Larry Johnson agreed to a six-year contract extension and joined the Chiefs for practice Tuesday, after having been absent from training camp since it opened July 27.

"It was a long, hard negotiation," general manager Carl Peterson said. "We are very happy to have all our children in camp now."

Johnson was in uniform, taking a swing pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle.

Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said Johnson will speak to the media Wednesday.

Johnson has broken the Chiefs' single-season rushing record in each of the past two seasons. He ran for 1,789 yards last year and set an NFL record with 416 carries.

During his holdout, the team fined him more than $19,000 per day.

            • It's getting cold ...

Harrington is 6/6 for 75 yards with a TD, and making good passes ... i'm waiting for the winged bacon, myself.

Will the Falcons not totally suck this year after all

I wonder how these voters think Schaub will manage to stay upright any better than Carr?

And speaking of Carr, he'd be the one to get my vote (because in Carolina he will get a chance to stay upright... once he gets the start ahead of Delhomme).

                          • Bleh.

New England Patriots strong safety Rodney Harrison will be suspended by the NFL for four games, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen, after admitting to federal investigators and to league officials that he used Human Growth Hormone.

Apparently he used it to recover from all the injuries he's had the last couple seasons. At least he handled it right, admitted it when confronted and apologized, more than can be said for most of these cases. Still....bleh.

                              • Apparently news from Jacksonville is that Coach Del Rio has settled on Garrard as the starting QB and are looking to trade or deal Leftwich, which is a shock to me. I realize that Del Rio never liked Leftwich, but I expected him to get one more year to prove himself and if that didn't work than to get someone to help them in the off season. Garrard is not the answer.
