  • European Football: Teh Transfer Talk Thread

    Since Imran and Maquiladora have hijacked the World Football thread, and since this topic is interesting enough to have a thread on its own, here it is.

    Cort was excited about Eduardo da Silva. Here's Arsenal's complete list so far:

    * In (signed): Eduardo Alves da Silva (Dinamo Zagreb); Lukasz Fabianski (Legia Warsaw, undisclosed)
    * In (rumours): Ryan Babel (Ajax, £6m); Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona, £25m); Nicolas Anelka (Bolton Wanderers); Obafemi Martins (Newcastle, £13m); Bakary Sagna (Auxerre); Curtis Davies (West Bromwich Albion, £8m)
    * Out (signed): Thierry Henry (to Barcelona, £16m); Fabrice Muamba (Birmingham City, undisclosed); Mart Poom (Watford, undisclosed); Jeremie Aliadiere (Middlesbrough, £2m); Arturo Lupoli (Fiorentina, free)
    * Out (rumours): None ()

    Eto'o? For real?

    On Eto'o: Barca would probably need to drop someone for Henry, but I wouldn't think it would be him. Besides, does Arsenal really have that kind of money these days? As I heard it, da Silva wasn't cheap.

        Gareth Bale (Southampton, £5m+£5m additional) and Darren Bent (Charlton, £16.5m) to Spurs confirmed.

        I doubt Eto'o will go anywhere worse than Barca this season, IIRC he said many times he wants to stay.

            Luis Garcia looks like he's going to Atletico, which pretty much confirms Fernando Torres is going the other way to Liverpool.

                Arsenal don't sign big names like Eto'o, whoever much some of our cry-baby fans demand 'big name' signings.

                Wenger buys for quality and value, not celebrity w@nk-factor to appease certain fans who, deep down, would rather be supporting a big club with seemingly unlimited funds.

                Vieira, Pires, Henry, Anelka '87, Fabregas - and hopefully Eduardo are the unpolished diamonds that Wenger buys. Not a single newspaper, website, blog or poster predicted the Edu II signing, and I wouldn't be surprised if none of the rumours amount to anything. I wouldn't say no to Anelka though, at the right price. I think he's grown up now.

                Spurs of course, have a policy of 'nearly signing' big names, so they can make their fans think they are a big club.

                  * Out (signed): Kovac (d, Borussia Dortmund); Balzaretti (d, Fiorentina); Tudor (d, Hajduk Spalato); Bojinov (a, Fiorentina); Paro (c, Genoa); Mirante (p, Sampdoria); De Ceglie (c, Siena); Giovinco (a, Empoli); Kapo (c, Birmingham); Maniero (a, Ascoli); Gastaldello (Sampdoria); Bonnefoi (p, Digione)

                  I feared that Camoranesi and Trez would be leaving, but it doesn't look like it so far

                            I'm not saying he's a bad player, but 6M is almost Huntelaar money.
