I was at my weekly poker game (won $50) when another Tigers fan (a rarity here in Columbus) got a call from his girlfriend up in Monroe. She told him that Verlander had a no-no going, and they were about to start the 9th inning. We switched from Game 3 of the Finals to ESPN, and caught that last inning.
That was ****ing amazing. Those curveballs, sweet jesus, how the hell could anyone hit those things? Especially when mixed in with that gas? (I don't for a minute believe he was really tossing 102 in the 9th, but I'd buy mid-to-high 90s.)
I've read that Neifi Perez (Neifi ****ing Perez!) saved the no-no with a ridiculous play in the 8th. Can't wait to catch that on ESPN."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

By comparison, the Red Sox are 9-4 against the AL Central.
Visit ESPN for the complete 2025 MLB season standings. Includes league, conference and division standings for regular season and playoffs.
And last I checked, the Red Sox didn't have Kansas City or the White Sox in their division either (even the lowest of the AL East, Baltimore, has a better record than the White Sox).

The White Sox are a good team that forgot how to play wellThey'll end up at or over .500 by the end of the year, I think. Though no realistic hopes for the playoffs
I'm actually pretty much on board with the idea of doing some trades for youth at this point. We need good young pitching, and one or two good young hitters, and I wouldn't mind seeing Dye, Thome, or Buehrle go if we get some quality for 2008-2009-2010 for them.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Well, Buehrle is 28. I'd rather not give up a good pitcher of his young age. Perhaps you are thinking you can get maybe two young pitchers who'd add up to something better than Buehrle, but that's always fraught with risk.
Dye and Thome OTOH, are good chips to deal. Thome, especially, while he is hot. He is 36, but then the question becomes how to replace the team's best hitter, BY FAR.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. I think it's an open question as to which division (AL Central or AL East) is better. We'll see at the end of the year.
Right now, the Central has two very good teams (Indians, Tigers), whereas the East has one (Red Sox). I expect the Yankees to enter those ranks, of course, now that they're finally playing well. But for now, they've just been a .500 team.
Both divisions have their patsies - the Royals & White Sox in the Central and the DRays and Orioles in the East. The Twins and the Blue Jays round things out... I'd probably rather have the Twins, especially considering the Jays have been devastated by injuries this year. So edge Central for now, sure.
No skin off my nose. Just make the playoffs, baby. The Yanks won the World Series in 2000, having won a craptacular 87 games.

p.s. I think it's telling that this thread was made by a White Sox fan. Trying to cling to glory by talking up the division, while your team is terrible?Last edited by Arrian; June 13, 2007, 11:31.grog want tank...Grog Want Tank... GROG WANT TANK!

Thome we'll have to replace anyway, he's too old to play regularly much longer. Dye I'd less like to lose, but I think we'll lose him to FA anyway... so let's get a few minor leaguers from Seattle or NYM or whatnot instead.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
